A new partnership for a new age of manufacturing

When Freelancer.com first partnered up with NASA to crowdsource solutions to tricky engineering problems the space agency sometimes comes across, it was a chance to give people around the world the chance to be involved in the new age of space exploration.

Freelancer.com’s partnership with NASA supports its its Tournament Lab Challenges initiative. Most recently, this partnership resulted in the Astrobee Challenges Series, which has seen freelancers invited to design a robotic arm for a floating robot that will provide support to astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS).

With Freelancer.com already helping NASA to tackle the future of space exploration, we’re now turning our hand to helping out with the future of manufacturing, thanks to a new partnership with the United States Department of Energy.

The Department of Energy (DOE) is on the hunt for fresh ideas to develop the next generation of manufacturing technologies for industry in the United States. This is part of the DOE’s broader commitment to help manufacturers in the U.S. improve energy productivity and manufacturing competitiveness.

As with NASA’s Tournament Lab Challenges initiative, which is aimed at finding solutions to real-world engineering issues, the DOE’s efforts to find new solutions that have the potential to make manufacturing smarter and more energy efficient is one that Freelancer.com can get behind.

One of Freelancer.com’s core missions is to empower the world’s entrepreneurs. Whether it is startup founders trying to build something new or individuals with something that could change the world, we work hard to ensure new ideas make it to those who need them.

And with a global community of over 30 million people, the Freelancer.com marketplace no doubt has a lot of ideas to offer. This could be why around 70% of Fortune 500 companies now useFreelancer.com to get things done.

This is also why we’re so excited to be a part of the DOE’s efforts to find new ideas with which to help usher in a new age for manufacturing in America.

The DOE’s new Manufacturing Innovator Challenge, being held in partnership with Freelancer.com, is giving freelancers across the United States the chance to win tens of thousands of dollars in prizes for great ideas.

The Manufacturing Innovator Challenge series largely focuses on advances in 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, as well as bioenergy, buildings and vehicle technologies. Individual prizes for the best ideas in these categories, and others, range from US$2,500 and US$10,000.

We’re looking forward to working with the DOE and the Freelancer.com community to help shape the future of manufacturing together.
