Heart failure is a condition in which the heart cannot pump blood as effectively as it should. When the heart becomes too weak or stiff, it cannot deliver enough oxygen and nutrients to the body’s organs and tissues. This can lead to symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in the legs or feet, and difficulty performing everyday activities.

Who Is at Higher Risk?

Certain factors increase the risk of developing heart failure. These include high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, diabetes, obesity, smoking, and a history of heart attacks. Older adults and individuals with a family history of heart disease may also have a higher risk. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and managing existing health conditions can help reduce the risk of heart failure.
