Yarışma Özeti

Hi there!

BACKGROUND: We are a productivity software start up based in Vienna, Austria (https://allactivity.com/). We are in the process of setting up our blog, and require assistance in content creation efforts.

GENERAL TASK DESCRIPTION:
You will be working on an article called "The 5 Stages of Delegation". It takes the reader through 5 phases one undergoes when delegating tasks. The main point is that leaders and managers do not delegate enough.

FEELING/ANGLE OF ARTICLE:
The article is a little bit tongue-in-cheek, a little bit funny, light-hearted. We are not really claiming to know the truth, i.e., we don't pretend to be too serious about it, too scientific. But we do believe we have come up with 5 actual stages of delegation, which could make a reader think: "Ha, that's funny, but actually also has some truth."

AUDIENCE FOR ARTICLE:
Managers, CEOs, anyone who's ever been in a position to delegate something.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
Please write an article of 1,500-2,500 word-length, which EXPANDS ON ALL IDEAS below. We want the details below to be reflected, but your article should GO BEYOND IT.

DETAILS OF ARTICLE:
- Please stick to the 5 stages of delegation that we have defined PLUS add an introduction
- 1st stage: "Self-Importance: "Only I can do it" (Denial)" --> We use this chapter to describe how everyone starts by NOT delegating. In this chapter, we mostly describe (A) THAT ppl underdelegate and (B) why they are not delegating enough. The "tongue-in-cheek"-aspect is that people feel self-important, but, of course, there may be other reasons as well for not delegating (enough/early enough), which we can list.
- 2nd stage: "Anxiety and Despair: "I am the bottleneck" (Grief)" --> This is the point when a person realizes that (s)he is the bottleneck. That's when a person gets buried in work and almost despairs about the number of tasks to complete. It's a moment of paralysis, because there is not enough time anymore to do anything about the problem: too late to delegate properly, too little time to sort one's own priorities ...
- 3rd stage: "Breaking Free: "You do it!"" --> This is basically the WRONG way to delegate. Just pushing off responsibility to other people. We can use this chapter to describe both the initial feeling of relief for the person delegating, but also the negative results of brainless, ill-planned delegation.
- 4th stage: "Damage Control: "You did what??"" --> This is when the delegating person realizes what (s)he has done wrong. She notices the negative results of bad instruction, late delegation, delegation without a plan. This affects the quality of the task completion, of course, but can also trigger other stuff like blame being assigned to others, etc.
- 5th stage: "Perfection: "This is how you do it!"" --> In the final stage, the person realizes how delegation is done right. This is probably the easiest part to write as we just provide a few tips about delegation.

CRITERIA FOR CONTEST:
- Perfect grammar and spelling
- Short sentences, clear & concise writing
- Matching our expectations for "FEELING/ANGLE OF ARTICLE" and "DETAILS OF ARTICLE"
- Understanding what it takes to keep a casual blog reader interested.

EXAMPLE:
Attached you can find a document with our initial attempt at drafting the article. Please rewrite/change it in any way you want.

SENTENCE TYPES:
We have collected a list of sentence types that you might find useful in creating the article:
1st person-example / Quote / Claim / Joke / List / Question / Rhetorical question / Reason / Detail / Explanation / Request / Call to Action / Invite / 2nd person example / Argumentum ad absurdum (Exaggeration) / Exception / 3rd person claim / Theory / Hypothesis / Do’s / Don’t’s / Contrast(ing) / Denial / Ranking & Sorting / Judging / Promise / Threat / Consequence / Bolstering a claim / Hedging or Qualifying a Claim / If ... then ..-statement / Emphasis / Recommendation / Identifying a Problem or Challenge / Self-Mockery

Hello. I was having trouble with a network connection, and so was unable to submit my entry, and it's too late now. I think my entry does quite well particularly with the "feeling/angle of the post" aspect. I spent many hours working on it, and I don't think it would hurt to take a look. Please chat me up to request a copy if you're interested in seeing it.
