Hi there,

For a data journalism website we're looking for a new logo, it's focused on using data to explore world issues.

The final naming is to be determined. For now the title to the right had side of the logo should read "data journalism" and be in Open Sans Semi Bold font. Adobe Illustrator files must be provided. A light (white) and a dark (charcoal R54,G53,B52) background version must provided.

It MUST be vector based. No bitmaps or photos with flashy effects please.

For inspiration I've attached 3 samples. Please have a look over these as a mood board.

Things I'm looking to convey:

- Data visualisation
- A wealth of information
- 'Bits' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bit i.e. the smallest unit of data
- One key data point among a mountain of data

Please bear in mind that:

- I'd like to stick to a 'flat design' and something that is vector based and scalable (generally, follow the broad Google guidelines http://mashable.com/2013/06/11/google-design-guidelines/ except for the colour palette or anything copyrighted). No flashy shadows, 3D etc.
- No copyrighted material of any kind should be used. It must be your own work.
- Although the above is meant as a guide, you don't need to tick all the boxes, creativity is definitely encouraged.

Just to re-highlight that "data journalism" is just a working title. What I'm looking for is a logo that conveys that meaning without the words and letters just like #3 or #24 for example, where I could just change the letters without modifying the whole design. For #31 the D and J are absolutely integral to the design - which I'm not looking for.

If someone could convey the meaning of:
- Data visualisation
- A wealth of information
- 'Bits' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bit i.e. the smallest unit of data
- One key data point among a mountain of data

... without using the words "data visualisation" then you have a good chance of winning!

Some good entries so far. Only one entry #3 has kept to the brief however and no one yet has managed to convey "one key data point in a mountain of data". A few have done non-vector images. It 100% needs to be vector.

Keep up the good work and up the creativity please (#20 is the most creative so far, but lacks polish / needs simplifying).

Some ideas to try;

- Data (1s and 0s) steaming from a hand or person. It's people after all that create the data.
- A hand plucking out one data point from a pile of data. This adds the human element.
- A bar chart that actually looks like a mountain, you could even have someone climbing up it!

Hope this gives food for thought.
