Objective: To design a patch which can be attached to a jeep roof, backpack, or other personalized items. As a collector of patches, it is frustrating to enjoy a location and not be able to add a patch to my collection. We aim to solve this problem through colorful and artfully designed patches.

Target audience:
Jeep, ORV, and ATV owners
Hikers and backpackers
Rustic / tent campers
Camper and RV owners
Hunters and fishers
In general, people who enjoy the outdoors

Layout Ground Rules:
Shape: simplified, but not square, round, triangle, etc - not complex due to not wanting fragile patch edges. Width and height are open to design interpretation.
Text: Must include the term “Huron-Manistee National Forests” and call out the state Michigan
Illustration elements: Must show off the Au Sable River. Other features from the “Patch Location Focus” list are optional
Design inspiration: generally retro looking (think 50’s and 60’s National Park artwork)
Colors: vibrate and retro, not neon
Font: 50’s or 60’s appropriate style
Use: Patch design to be embroidered

Patch Location Focus: As Sable River & Huron-Manistee National Forests
Considered one of the best brown trout fisheries east of the Mississippi.
In French, As Sable means “at the sand.”
The area is popular for fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and hunting.
The lumberjack 100 - an annual 100 mile, ultra-endurance, mountain bike race - is held here.
The Nordhouse Dunes are interspersed with woody vegetation such as juniper, jack pine and hemlock.
Lumberman’s Monument Visitor Center interprets the area’s colorful lumbering past. The 14-foot Lumberman’s Monument stands on a high bank with the Au Sable River.
The word Manistee comes from a Native American word meaning, "the whispering through the pines.”
The Kirtland's warbler, a brown headed cowbird, is a ground nesting, persistent singer, and was one of the first species to be listed as endangered after the Endangered Species Act of 1973 was passed by Congress. Kirtland's warblers migrate from Michigan to the southeastern coast of the United States on their way to wintering grounds in the Bahamas.

*We gave lots of examples of oranges and browns. We are hoping for a wider color palette, but struggled to find examples of what we are thinking.
