Design a Symantic-UI Theme

Yarışma Özeti

Benson Hill Biosystems is upgrading an application built using Electron, Chromium and React/Redux technologies and Semantic-UI as its UI Framework.

We need a semantic theme for each of the pages/views in the attached screenshots.

The step module utilizes the semantic step element:
http://semantic-ui.com/elements/step.html
The icons in each step, the size of the steps and the integration of the steps into a chain is all change-able, but their order is not.

The Line Browser module needs a visual overhaul as well. All buttons and elements can be changed to similar elements as long as function is preserved (i.e., the sliders can be changed to checkboxes). However, the layout should not be changed.

The figure panel in the line browser does not need a vertical scrollbar. the 'line details' panel will be collapsible, and also will contain a figure, text, and tables.

Elements that are currently in the line browser, which need a new design are:
- each panel's outer box, including header area
- the 'edit' buttons on the left side that have pencils in them
- the sliders on the left
- the 'lines' button/elements on the left panel
- the column headers in the center table (text smaller, more separation between headers)
- the location box should be separated from the 'flask' element
- the flask element needs to be re-designed - it represents important data attached to the identifier
- the magnifying glass is the element that brings up the detail view, it needs to be redesigned
- the date can be designed or converted to a simple number.
- also need designed elements that allow manipulation of the central figure pane
- new figure space in the right pane
- element for collapsing the right pane

In addition, each new theme should also include the design of a menu item. as an example of a starter element:
http://semantic-ui.com/collections/menu.html

The menu should span across the top of each page. There should also be a footer element at the bottom of the page.

Integration of the network concept (see the website below) in an elegant manner would be impressive. This is especially true inside the 'data splash' page.

These views will contain a great deal of information, so space on the view is at a premium. Blocky elements and large bubbles are NOT desired.

A high degree of sophistication and elegance is desired - the system will be used by world-class scientists, not the general public.

To understand the current graphical theme of the company, see this website:
http://bensonhillbio.com/

You do not need to conform to the color scheme of that website, but of course you may.

The winning entry can expect more work to become available as the software system grows.

The winning entry MAY be selected before the close of the contest, but this is not likely.

To all designers, after seeing many designs using the company website colors, i definitely do not want to use those colors in the final design.

for reference, please see the user interface of this application:
    http://www.mendeley.com

This application also has a very clean interface, focusing on presenting the data with minimal clutter. Everything you see can be clicked on to access a function.

    or this screenshot of itunes:
    http://itunes-windows8.com/images/itunes-windows.jpeg

Note how there's very little extraneous icons or graphical objects - rows represent text, and the data is left as text, with the headers or type being the only identifier of what is in that row and column. There are some icons, but they are functional only. There are not a great deal of useless additional elements on the screen.

In short, i believe the best way to describe what we're looking for is 'minimalist', 'clean', 'elegant', etc.

In particular, please move away from yellow and black - I want to see something you might see in an enterprise software context, of itunes, mendeley, gmail's default settings, etc.

To all designers - in general, i am seeing assembly of standard Semantic UI elements into a user interface. I'm looking to get something in addition to the elements and features already available from the standard Semantic library.

Entries which show new designs and ideas, rather than the standard click sliders and logos will be favored.
