Budget for this project is £800, It is a totally new development of aluminium fishing boat. It is not a modification or adaptation.
The idea is to transfer power from the engine to the propeller by means of hydraulics as this would simplify building process and will allow to control Engine to Propeller RPM ratio during use of the boat. So when it needs to tow it can do so with more torque or if it is mowing to the fishing grounds it can go a lot faster due to the change in the rpm ratios.
We will need to make decision on how to achieve goal with minimum effort that we can get away with. In ideal world we would take existing motor that is already on the market take all internals out of it and fit them inside of our pod drive so that our pod drive become the housing for the hydraulic motor.
The pod drive or sail drive as some people call them will be made out of aluminium and will be fitted through the bottom of the boat. You will not need to develop a pod drive, you will only need to develop a motor and internal shape of it housing so that later on this motor can me incorporated into the design of a pod drive. The drive shaft of this motor will also be a propeller shaft.
Already some calculations was done and suitable manufacturers identified, so if you have experience with hydraulic motors you will only need to modify existing motor and its components to perform in different application. This will simplify our manufacturing process as we will be able to buy parts from that already available on the shelves.
