Project Overview:
We are helping establish a new Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo monastery and church in Shasta County, California, named Gishen Mariam. The formation has been approved by the greater church in Sacramento, and we are now creating the monastery/church’s early public identity, online presence, official stationery, and fundraising materials.
We are looking for a culturally respectful and skilled designer who can help create a sacred, traditional, and professional visual identity for this early stage of the monastery and church.
About the Project:
Gishen Mariam will be both a monastery and church. The property includes an existing church building and has long-term potential for spiritual retreats, community service, wellness/recovery programs for at-risk individuals, cultural programming, and future music-centered programming. One future space will later be announced as Kidus Yared Hall, but this does not need to be emphasized in the first public-facing design unless requested.
At this stage, the design should support early church formation, community awareness, fundraising, donor letters, website/social media presence, and official correspondence.
Design Style We Are Seeking:
The design should be inspired by Ethiopian Orthodox Christian tradition and should feel:
- Sacred
- Traditional
- Dignified
- Peaceful
- Warm
- Professional
- Appropriate for a monastery and church
- Suitable for fundraising and official documents
Possible visual elements may include:
- Ethiopian Orthodox cross motifs
- Traditional Ethiopian Orthodox borders or manuscript-inspired patterns
- Subtle sacred color palette such as gold, deep red, green, white, and dark blue
- Elegant decorative framing
- Clean readable space for formal letters
- A visual feeling of prayer, heritage, monastic life, and community
The design should not look like a generic corporate brand or modern church template. It should feel rooted in Ethiopian Orthodox tradition while still being clean and usable for official documents and online communication.
