# Video Editing Contest: From Magic to a Lamborghini ## Turn Raw Footage Into High-Engagement Short-Form Content I’m looking for a brilliant video editor and storyteller who can take a folder of raw footage and turn it into a fast-paced, high-retention Instagram Reel/YouTube Short. This is a VIDEO EDITING CONTEST. Please do not submit placeholders, generic templates, or low-quality AI-generated content. Low-effort or fraudulent submissions will be reported to Freelancer. Please communicate with me only through Freelancer regarding this project. ## The Story The premise is simple, but pretty wild: I was coming back from a performance in Las Vegas when we spotted a Lamborghini. I wanted to demonstrate to my friend how magic can create opportunities and open doors. I approached the Lamborghini owner and proposed a value exchange: I would show him some great magic, and if he liked it, he would take me for a ride. He agreed. But it gets better. After the magic, not only did he take me for a ride, he eventually let me DRIVE his Lamborghini. That transformation is the story: **Stranger → Magic Trick → Value Exchange → Lamborghini Ride → I Drive the Lamborghini** Your job is to make viewers want to see what happens next. ## Style Reference Use this Short as source/story material: (feel free to edit out my background and turn it into a blank green screen then add photos or videos) https://youtube.com/shorts/l7_f6oWAlWM?is=ELbRSbz5hTLUC_ER There’s a lot of fluff in the raw footage that doesn’t need to make the final cut. For example, afterward I’m screaming like a little girl, and I don’t think that makes me look particularly good. Please cut moments like that. The goal is to make me come across as confident, charismatic, and polished, while keeping the video entertaining and engaging. For the EDITING STYLE, use this as inspiration: https://youtu.be/WVX55hbEpaw?si=uwTbCGO0pRw1r_py I especially like the caption overlays, punch-ins, zoom effects, pacing, and visual changes that keep the viewer engaged. (If using layers, make sure my head does not block the text so you can see most of the word. Little block is okay but if you can't determine the word it's probably not great.) For example, when I say “Lamborghini,” immediately show the Lamborghini. When I mention Las Vegas, you could briefly show the Las Vegas sign or another recognizable Vegas visual. The visuals should constantly reinforce what I’m saying rather than simply showing a talking head. If using AI don't use all AI. Don't just submit AI slop! ## Raw Footage + Photos All additional footage and photos are here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lk0j-QBBliiL4x_2t6zlC3HsXZW63VY4 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XVWkdc01rU4sjbeabntGBQx7VQ4IJZVe/view?usp=share_link If you use a photo of the car, this might be the best one: https://www.80eighty.com/pages/dream-car-giveaway-winner-42 When I say, “Follow for more,” maybe you can cut to my Instagram page and zoom in on the Follow button to make it feel more dynamic and visually engaging. IMPORTANT: **I’m the Asian guy in the footage/photos.** My friend also got a ride, so make sure the edit focuses primarily on ME and my experience. Prioritize footage and photos of me, especially my reactions, the initial ask, the magic, the Lamborghini, and the moment when the owner reacts with **“No way!”** That “NO WAY!” reaction could be one of the strongest moments in the entire video. Use it. In fact start with one of the reactions. 1 second to hook them! You have access to a lot of footage. You DO NOT need to use everything. Your job is to find the story hidden inside the footage. **Cut the fluff.** ## Possible Opening Hooks Test whichever hook you think will generate the highest retention: **“One magic trick for a ride in a Lamborghini?”** **“How I social engineered my way into a Lamborghini…”** **“How I traded a few magic tricks for a ride in a Lamborghini…”** **“Using literal magic to get what you want.”** You can rewrite these if you have a stronger hook. ## Suggested Story Arc You do not have to follow this word-for-word. This is the basic story I want viewers to understand: **One magic trick for a ride in a Lamborghini?** Coming back from a gig in Vegas… We spotted this Lamborghini. [SHOW THE ACTUAL LAMBORGHINI] I told my friend, “Watch this.” I offered the owner a trade. A few magic tricks… For one Lamborghini ride. He said YES. But I had a bigger plan… Could I get him to let me DRIVE it? I just didn’t tell him that yet. First, I had to blow his mind. [SHOW MAGIC] [OWNER: “NO WAY!”] Then I made the bigger ask. And somehow… **HE LET ME DRIVE IT.** ## The Bigger Idea There’s also a lesson underneath the entertainment. This is about **value exchange**. Give someone something valuable first, then make the ask. Potential pop-up concepts: **[SOCIAL ENGINEERING]** **[VALUE EXCHANGE]** **[THE LAMBO HACK]** Don't overdo these. Story and entertainment come first. The viewer should initially be thinking: **“Is this actually going to work?”** Then: **“Wait, he actually got the ride?”** And finally: **“There’s no way this guy is going to let him DRIVE it…”** That final escalation should help keep people watching. ## Editing Direction Keep it SHORT. Keep it FAST. Keep the story extremely easy to understand. Use captions, punch-ins, zooms, reaction shots, photos, B-roll, sound design, and visual pattern interrupts where appropriate. You may need to green-screen me or remove/replace backgrounds in certain clips. You may use AI to clean up or enhance footage and photos, but do not fabricate the central story. If you enhance the Lamborghini imagery, it should still clearly represent the same car, including the correct color. I would rather have a fantastic short video than a mediocre longer video. Every second should earn its place. ## Engagement Instagram and YouTube reward retention, completion, comments, shares, and rewatches. If you can naturally build engagement into the story, do it. For example, you might end with something like: **“Would YOU let a magician drive your Lamborghini?”** Or find a stronger question that makes people want to comment. If you see an opportunity to create a loop where the ending naturally connects back to the opening, even better. ## Thumbnail Bonus I may award an additional **$5 prize just for the best thumbnail.** AI may be used to create or enhance the thumbnail, but it MUST feature **ME**, not a random AI-generated person. Possible thumbnail concepts: **MAGIC → LAMBORGHINI** **ONE TRICK = LAMBO?** **HE LET ME DRIVE IT?!** A strong thumbnail should make someone immediately wonder how a magician convinced a stranger to hand him the keys to a Lamborghini. ## How to Win I’m not simply looking for someone who knows Premiere, CapCut, or After Effects. I’m looking for someone who understands **storytelling, psychology, curiosity, pacing, retention, and payoff.** The winning edit will make the progression crystal clear: **I see the Lamborghini.** **I make the owner an offer.** **I perform the magic.** **He reacts.** **I get the ride.** **Then I push my luck and ask to drive it.** **He lets me drive.** You have plenty of footage to work with. Don't feel obligated to use all of it. Find the strongest moments. Cut everything else. **Tell the story.** Thanks again! Dan Chan https://www.instagram.com/danchanmagic/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrmjnFLZ_TnSz3u8TSHG2kQ (to see some of the past winners of my Freelancer contests) Important: Please Read Before Resubmitting If your entry receives 3 stars or less, please do not submit another version. This is intended to save both of us time. I’m already very close to selecting a winner, and if I’ve rated your submission 3 stars or below, it means the overall editing style and creative direction are not what I’m looking for. At this stage, I don’t believe another revision would realistically be competitive with the entries I’m currently considering. Rather than spending additional time on a submission that is unlikely to win, I encourage you to check out my Instagram in about a week. I’ll be sharing the winning video there, and you’ll be able to see the style, pacing, storytelling, and editing approach that ultimately stood out. I genuinely appreciate the time and effort you put into your submission. This guideline is simply meant to prevent you from investing more time in a fruitless effort, while also allowing me to focus on reviewing the finalists who are closest to the direction I’m looking for. Thank you for understanding, and thank you for participating!
