2. The same spinning wheel concept, but for 'Positive Emotions' and the emotion to put on the wheel with the associated explanation is as follows:
We feel joy about unexpected things that are good and safe. Young children often experience joy. Joy prompts us play or get involved and learn more from the experience.
When we acknowledge that someone else's actions have benefitted us, we feel gratitude toward them. It naturally prompts us to think of ways in which we can express our thankfulness or be kind in return.
Sometimes we feel completely comfortable or at ease with our current circumstances. This happens when we cherish those circumstances and feel they are right or satisfying. Serenity helps us to savour those circumstances and integrate them into our priorities and values, adding to how we understand ourselves and helping us to spend our time well.
When our circumstances feel safe but also novel, we can feel interest. For example, we can feel it about something find mysterious. Interest prompts us to explore and learn about whatever is novel, building our knowledge.
When we imagine better circumstances and feel that it's possible to attaining them, we can feel hope. Hope creates an urge to drawn on our own capabilities and ingenuity to create those better circumstances. In this way, hope helps us to be resilient when things aren't so good, because it helps us to work toward making them better.
If we accomplishing something that is socially valued, such as crafting a beautiful piece of furniture, we often feel a sense of pride. It's about being pleased with our own efforts, and it motivates us to work toward achieving even more things.
We are amused when we notice something odd - something that doesn't fit with our expectations - so long as it isn't serious. Amusement gives us an urge to laugh and find ways to continue and share the joviality, and thereby build and solidify enduring social bonds with friends and family.
Witnessing human excellence is inspiring. It could be moral excellence (e.g. a good deed) or an excellent performance of some kind. When we feel inspired, it motivates us to excel and grow personally.
When we encounter goodness on a grand or overwhelming scale we feel awe. This experience prompts us to take in this new vastness, and it shapes our views of the world.
We feel love when we experience any other positive emotion in the context of a safe, interpersonal connection or relationship. Love prompts us to nurture our social relationships.
