We are two fellows building a card game with a table tennis (ping pong) theme. It will be physical card game, with illustrations on every card. At the beginning we need two illustrated characters that we can use for branding and marketing. Those two characters will be used in most of the upcoming card illustrations also, so there will be plenty of possibilities later. Characters need to be build in a way that those are easy to modify and use in multiple positions, images etc.
The first character we need is Pong Pete. Little fat, maybe sweaty every-man who just loves table tennis. He is not sporty and also not very good at table tennis. But he loves it and is always willing to play. Happy, smiling. Pete is often in problems, making him often play with other hand broken, eye blinded (maybe even bleeding) or sitting in wheelchair. Pete is little nerd, working as a IT-guy. Pete has found a magic table tennis paddle (very old) that has so much power that it gives him ability to win anyone if everything goes well. Usually his games end up in catastrophe. Please illustrate Pete holding very old but interesting looking tennis table paddle, smiling. Pete is 169 cm tall and weights a little bit more than he should.
Other character is Timo Schlong. He has German father and Chinese mother. He is like a modern day ninja playing table tennis as a professional athlete. During his childhood he practiced so much, that he lost his right hand. He has robotic arm now, which makes him super fast playing table tennis. Very focused and serious. Athlete, but "over the top". Think about Ivan Drago from Rocky movies playing table tennis. He does everything to win. Sometimes this athlete goes crazy and uses mobile phone as a paddle or spins around crazily. Timo is 205 cm tall and weights 95kg. Please illustrate Timo with robotic arm holding a very new and shiny table tennis paddle. All gear he is wearing should be best the money can buy. Robotic arm should be little bit like terminator face ([login to view URL]) or winter soldier arm ([login to view URL]), instead of full robot stuff.
For graphic style we are open for playful/grotesk vector illustrations, but also more graphic style. It needs to be something where those characters can be easily used in different images, positions and modified. We want characters go over the top rather than be safe. Go wild with the characters, make them stand up. We added some reference images as a mood board. We really want it to be tongue in cheek or then totally grotesk (like Sin City comics etc).
We hope to continue collaboration with competition winner for more work with our game. We need these characters in 30-50 card illustrations. We have budget of 100-200€ for that work.
