Men in Australia have a lower life expectancy than women, higher rates of avoidable and premature mortality and lead less healthy lifestyles. Despite this data indicates that males have lower utiltisation of health services. This paper uses data from the Household Income and Labour Dynamic in Australia (HILDA) survey to explore sex diferences in utilisation of a range of health services. The analysis shows that men have lower use of x out of x service types examined and that the sex differential in service use remains even when men are experiencing illness or poor health. Groups of men with the lowest service use are identified. Implications for health services are discussed (primarily the need for health services to improve their ability to engage men).
