We're building a system that works similarly to sports auto-tracking cameras (e.g. Veo), but with a simpler, classical computer-vision approach — no deep learning or trained models needed. What we need: Camera stitching: Combine footage from two fixed cameras (mounted on one rig, overlapping field of view) into a single panoramic image (~180°), using calibration/homography. The cameras don't move relative to each other, so this should be a one-time calibration applied per frame. Motion-density tracking: From the panoramic feed, detect where players are concentrated (background subtraction / foreground blob density, not per-object classification) and use that to drive an automatic pan/crop — i.e. a virtual camera that follows the action without a human operator. Output: a single, smooth, watchable video stream (no visible seam/ghosting at the stitch line, no jittery panning). What this is NOT: we are not looking for a deep-learning/ball-detection/player-identification system. Classical CV techniques (homography, background subtraction, centroid tracking, Kalman/low-pass smoothing) are the right toolset here — please don't propose a large AI/ML infrastructure buildout. Ideal candidate: Strong hands-on experience with OpenCV (stitching, homography, background subtraction) Has shipped at least one real-time video processing project (not just offline/batch) Comfortable working with two-camera / multi-camera rigs and frame synchronization Bonus: experience with sports or surveillance camera systems

Greetings, I worked on a real-time camera guidance system for car wash sites, using ceiling-mounted cameras to track vehicle position and movement. That project used Jetson Nano, DeepStream and TensorRT, so I have hands-on experience building video processing that must react smoothly in real time, not just process recorded video offline. For your project, I agree that deep learning is not necessary. I would first calibrate and stitch the two fixed cameras, then build motion-density tracking on the panorama and add smoothing to the virtual pan/crop so it does not jump when players move quickly. I think a first working demo with stitching and basic automatic tracking should be possible in around 3–5 days, assuming sample footage from both synchronized cameras is available. One question: are both cameras hardware-synchronized, or should synchronization also be handled in software? Sincerely, Oleksandr

Hi, I am a software engineer with over 16 years of experience, including real-time computer vision, OpenCV, multi-camera processing, and production-grade video pipelines. Your classical CV approach is exactly the right fit here; I would not introduce unnecessary deep-learning infrastructure. I can build the pipeline around a one-time stereo calibration and homography, with exposure/seam handling for a clean panoramic view. I will then use background subtraction and spatial motion density to identify the active area, followed by Kalman or low-pass smoothing and constrained crop movement to produce a natural, stable virtual pan. I will also account for synchronized frame capture, changing light, shadows, and brief motion gaps so the output remains watchable during real matches. I can deliver a tested end-to-end implementation and help tune it using your actual camera footage and target hardware. What camera resolution/frame rate and synchronization method are you using, and is the final system expected to run on a PC, Jetson, or another embedded platform? Please contact me to discuss details.

I understand you're developing a classical computer vision-based motion-tracking system for sports, similar to Veo but without deep learning. My experience in real-time image processing and camera calibration, particularly with projects involving panoramic stitching for surveillance and event analysis, aligns directly with your need for a simplified, robust solution. I can deliver the core functionalities you've outlined. My approach will leverage OpenCV for both camera stitching and motion-density tracking. For stitching, I'll use feature matching (e.g., SIFT/ORB) followed by homography estimation to create a seamless panorama from your two fixed cameras. This calibration will be computed once and applied per frame. For motion-density tracking, I'll implement background subtraction on the panoramic feed to isolate moving objects and then utilize clustering algorithms (e.g., DBSCAN) to identify areas of high player concentration. To ensure perfect alignment, how are the two cameras physically mounted and what is the approximate overlap percentage of their fields of view? Once we confirm these details, I can provide a more precise timeline. I'm available for a brief call to discuss the specifics and how I can efficiently implement this system for you.

Hello, I have reviewed your requirements and can develop the sports camera motion-tracking system using classical computer vision techniques without unnecessary deep-learning infrastructure. I have 10+ years of experience with OpenCV, real-time video processing, image stitching, homography, background subtraction and multi-camera systems. I can combine the two fixed camera feeds into a calibrated panoramic view, detect foreground/player-density regions and drive a smooth virtual pan/crop that follows the action. WORKING FLOW: Camera Calibration → Calibrate both cameras and establish the required homography for accurate alignment. Video Stitching → Combine synchronized frames into a seamless panoramic feed with minimal seam or ghosting issues. Motion Detection → Use background subtraction and foreground density analysis to identify where the activity is concentrated. Virtual Camera → Calculate the optimal crop position and apply smoothing/Kalman or low-pass filtering for stable movement. Real-Time Processing → Optimize the pipeline for continuous video processing with minimal latency and efficient frame handling. I can review your sample footage and camera specifications first to confirm the calibration approach and provide a realistic implementation timeline. Thanks, Invoke Tech

Classical CV is the right call here, a trained model would be overkill for blob-density panning. I'll calibrate the two-camera homography once, feathered blend across the seam to kill ghosting, then drive the virtual pan from MOG2 foreground centroids smoothed with a Kalman filter so the crop doesn't jitter on isolated movement. Frame sync between the two feeds matters more than the stitch math, one dropped frame and the seam tears. I can jump in right away. 1) Are the cameras hardware-synced or software-timestamped? 2) Live output or post-match render? Ready when you are. Thanks Shayan

Hi, I am Adeel. I have built computer vision pipelines using OpenCV for detection, tracking and video processing, including background subtraction and centroid based approaches similar to what you need here. For this I would calibrate a one time homography between the two rigs, warp and blend at the seam with a fixed mask to avoid recomputing per frame, then run foreground blob density on the panorama to drive a smoothed virtual camera crop using a low pass or Kalman filter so the pan does not jitter. Real time performance depends a lot on your source resolution and frame rate. What resolution and fps are the two cameras recording at?

Consider this ✍️I see you are looking to combine footage from two fixed cameras into a single panoramic image while tracking player motion density. What usually matters is using classical computer-vision techniques like homography and background subtraction. A common issue with projects like this is ensuring no visible seam or jittery panning in the output video stream. I have worked on similar sports camera projects where precise camera calibration and tracking were critical. So I know the challenges associated with stitching and motion tracking. My approach would involve: • applying one-time calibration for camera stitching. • implementing background subtraction for motion-density tracking. • ensuring smooth video output with low-pass filtering. • conducting real-time testing with multi-camera setups. • optimizing the system to eliminate ghosting effects. Do you have specific requirements for the camera setup you’re planning to use? Best, Kurt.

the classical approach is the right call here, and the reason most of these projects disappoint is not the tracking. it is the stitch. two cameras on one rig have a baseline between them, so they see the scene from slightly different positions. a single homography can only align one plane perfectly. calibrate to the ground plane and the pitch lines will meet beautifully, while a player crossing the seam ghosts or doubles, because his head is not on that plane. that is parallax and no amount of calibration removes it. what you do instead is choose the ground plane, place the seam where play is least frequent, and blend across it. worth agreeing that trade-off now rather than discovering it in the first match. on motion density, three things break background subtraction outdoors and all three are solvable if planned for. moving cloud changes global illumination, so the model has to adapt without absorbing stationary players. shadows read as foreground unless suppressed. and a player standing still becomes background, then reappears as a false blob when he moves. the last one decides whether the footage is watchable: the virtual pan must be damped and rate-limited. a raw blob centroid jitters, and jitter makes viewers seasick faster than missing the action does. the vision work is done by a specialist on our team, with us accountable for delivery. what frame rate and resolution per camera, and is this recorded or live?

Hi there, The challenging part of this project lies in achieving a smooth, watchable video output without visible seams or jittery movements during panning. This requires precise camera stitching and robust motion-density tracking. I have hands-on experience with OpenCV, particularly in stitching and background subtraction, which will be essential for your needs. To ensure optimal results, I suggest a phased approach: first, we calibrate the camera setup and implement the stitching to create a panoramic view; second, we develop the motion-density tracking to automate the virtual camera movements effectively. Could you clarify the specific requirements for the motion tracking, such as the desired response time or any other performance metrics? Thank you.

Hi, The seam is where this either looks finished or looks homemade. A fixed rig means the homography is computed once, but a single flat blend across the join will still show a line whenever lighting differs between the two sensors, which outdoors it always does. Exposure matching before blending does more for the result than the warp itself. The panning then crops from that panorama, so seam quality is baked in before any tracking runs. Are the two cameras hardware-synced, and is this processing recorded matches or a live feed? I should say plainly that my background is application and backend engineering rather than shipped real-time CV. I work in C++ and OpenCV and have built native processing pipelines driven from a higher-level orchestration layer, but I have not delivered a sports tracking system. On the tracking side, motion density is noisy by nature, and a virtual camera reacting to every blob spike reads as jitter no matter how good the stitch is. Capping pan velocity and adding a deadband, so small crowd movement does not move the frame at all, is what makes the output watchable. Kind regards, Abel.

Good day, thanks for shairng your project details, Based on your requirements, I understand that you are looking to build a real-time sports auto-tracking system using two fixed cameras, where the feeds are calibrated and stitched into a seamless ~180° panoramic view. Questions: - What camera resolution and FPS are you targeting, and will the two cameras have hardware/timecode synchronization or should synchronization be handled in software? - Should the system automatically determine the optimal tracking/crop window, or should the operator be able to configure boundaries and tracking sensitivity? - Do you want the final output to support live streaming, local recording, or both, and what output resolution/format do you require? I would love to schedule a meeting or have a detailed conversation about the project to clarify some concerns about the project, this way I can demonstrate my capabilities perfectly and suggest the best result possible. Kind Regards, Najam Ul Islam Budget and Duration are TBD>
