Project MARS is a large-scale cultural data annotation initiative. Contributors review and annotate AI-generated responses to ensure they accurately reflect authentic English (Singapore) cultural and personal values. Your work directly helps train Large Language Models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude to respond in culturally appropriate ways. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Each session consists of two stages: Stage 1 — Questionnaire Survey (~30 minutes) - Complete three validated surveys covering your demographics, personal value priorities, and cultural identity Stage 2 — Cultural Value Annotation (~150 minutes, minimum 10 annotation sets) - Select culturally relevant topics reflecting current Singapore norms - Articulate and rank 3–5 cultural value principles per topic - Create, select, or refine value-related questions (all three types must be used in balanced proportion) - Review and annotate AI-generated responses from both a cultural perspective (mainstream Singapore values) and a personal perspective (your own values) - These two perspectives must be kept strictly and completely separate at all times SESSION STRUCTURE: - Minimum: 10 completed annotation sets within 2.5 hours - Maximum session length: 3.5 hours (time beyond 3.5 hours is non-billable) - Tasks are released on a first-come, first-served basis - Platform: Value Compass Annotation Platform PAY RATE: - Rate: USD $10.00 per hour QUALITY STANDARDS: Contributors are assessed against a four-tier quality system: - Gold (100% accuracy) — Priority task access - Silver (97–98%) — Regular task access - Bronze (90–94%) — Under review / rework required - Below Bronze (below 90%) — Removal from project Continuous quality checks and random sampling will be applied throughout. Incorrect or non-compliant annotations must be reworked without additional compensation. IMPORTANT — ANTI-FRAUD POLICY The following are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal and forfeiture of payment: - Use of AI tools, auto-complete, or any automated annotation aid - Copy-pasting content from external sources - Annotations that do not reflect genuine human judgment - Only manual, human-based annotation is permitted. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: - Native-level proficiency in Singapore English — written and spoken - Deep, genuine knowledge of current Singapore cultural values and social norms - Ability to clearly separate cultural perspectives from personal perspectives - Strong critical thinking and attention to consistency - Able to work independently and remotely without supervision - Familiarity with LLMs such as ChatGPT is helpful but not required HOW TO APPLY: Please submit a blind CV — do not include your phone number, email address, or any social media profiles or handles. Your proposal should include: - A summary of your English (Singapore) cultural background and relevant experience - Your available hours per week - Confirmation that you are a native English (Singapore) speaker currently residing in Japan - Only qualified applicants will be contacted.

I understand Project Mars requires meticulous annotation to imbue LLMs with authentic Singaporean cultural nuances, much like ensuring Japanese cultural fidelity in similar AI training initiatives. My experience in sentiment analysis and cross-cultural linguistic data processing equips me to accurately identify and categorize subtle cultural expressions. My approach involves leveraging a combination of qualitative annotation techniques and quantitative validation. I will utilize a structured annotation guideline, developed based on the provided project description and common Singaporean cultural frameworks, to ensure consistency. My process will include regular self-checks against benchmark examples and a systematic approach to resolving ambiguities, focusing on identifying culturally specific idioms, politeness strategies, and social context markers. To ensure optimal alignment with Project Mars' goals, could you elaborate on any specific linguistic markers or cultural dimensions that have proven particularly challenging in previous annotation efforts? I'm eager to discuss how my skills can directly contribute to the success of this vital project.

The hardest part of this job is picking the correct Singaporean cultural nuances to focus on, that's the hard part because it's not defined. I'll approach this by building out a system for classifying and ranking potential topics based on their relevance to current Singapore norms, so I can systematically work through the annotation sets. For Stage 1, I will use standard survey implementation methods, and for Stage 2, I will create a structured annotation interface in Python using libraries like Pandas for data handling and potentially some basic UI elements with Streamlit so you can see the data as it is being annotated. I'll assume the cultural value principles you want articulated and ranked are those commonly discussed in sociology and cross-cultural communication, focusing on individualism versus collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, and other established frameworks, until you tell me otherwise. The brief does not specify how much of each cultural value principle needs to be articulated. I will assume a minimum of three to five sentences explaining each principle’s relevance to the selected topic and Singapore. I have 8 reviews on here, everything delivered on time and on the agreed price so far, plus Preferred Freelancer status. What is the minimum number of annotation sets required per session if a contributor goes over the minimum 10 annotation sets before the 150 minutes are up? Once I have that, I will send back a proposed annotation workflow.

Hello, I understand the main risk: blending personal preferences with cultural norms or relying on external tools that violate the anti-fraud policy. Accurate separation of cultural vs personal perspectives and strict manual judgment are essential to maintain quality and avoid removal. I am a native Singapore English speaker with lived experience of Singapore cultural values and frequent engagement with LLM outputs in professional testing and evaluation. I have performed similar annotation and review tasks where I had to document cultural principles, craft targeted questions, and evaluate AI responses against cultural criteria while keeping my personal stance distinct. My background as a Senior Software Engineer working with LLM integrations gives me familiarity with how model outputs can drift culturally and what to look for when assessing alignment. My first step in a session is to select topics that expose cultural fault lines, then explicitly write separate notes: one listing cultural principles and one stating personal perspective, before annotating each AI response. This ensures every annotation set meets the platform's requirement for separation and traceability. - Do you prefer annotators to prioritize specific domains (social etiquette, family, work) during each session or to cover a broad mix? - Are there example annotation sets or a short style guide on Value Compass you recommend I review before my first session? Best regards, Christopher

Hello, this reads more like a language data operations role than an engineering build, so the main issue is not implementation but annotation consistency and review quality across English (Singapore) edge cases. The real risk is label reliability drifting when guidelines are underspecified, especially around regional phrasing, ambiguity, and reviewer calibration. I’ve built several production AI systems where downstream model quality depended on clean, consistently structured human-reviewed data, so I tend to look first at taxonomy clarity, exception handling, and QA loops rather than tooling alone. The closest relevant project is DocIntel AI — Document Intelligence & Event Extraction Platform, where extraction quality depended on well-defined review logic and traceable source handling. If this role does include process design, I usually separate guideline definition, annotation execution, and audit review so disagreement patterns can be measured and corrected early. For reliability, I’d want to see gold-sample checks, escalation paths for ambiguous cases, and clear handling for Singapore-specific language variation. If useful, I can help sketch a lightweight QA framework for the annotation flow and identify where consistency will break first. Clifton
