AWS has several mechanisms which use the AWS Certificate Manager to implement SSL/TLS access. This is considered best practice. In general practice, however, SSL is usually implemented using a 3rd-party endpoint, a router or some other firewalled device, or a web server. As in most things, there exist significant differences in how IIS and other, unix-based web servers implement SSL (the `.pk12` certificate has been mostly implemented by Windows & Windows Server), and these differences are covered in the application of the SSL certificate.
Creating a CSR and installing the generated certificate will require some information, namely:
- Domain Name (usually has 'www' somewhere in it: typing this into your google chrome or firefox shows your website)
- Web Server (one of: Apache, IIS, nginx, tomcat, other)
- Organization Name
- Organization Address
- Administrator Email
- AWS Credentials (one of: certificate, username & password)
