I need a small Android application that launches straight into a full-screen WebView, keeps the display permanently in portrait orientation, and prevents users from leaving the app (typical kiosk/lock-task mode). The only content the WebView should load is our company website; I will supply the final URL during development. This will be installed in Android TV bOX running Android version 9&+, the site will be face recognition , USB web camera should work with it with relatime fluency & HD. Core behaviour • On first launch, the app should ask for (or read from a simple config file) the website URL, then open it automatically every subsequent time. • Lock-task mode or any equivalent approach must block the Home, Recent Apps, and status bar pull-down so visitors cannot exit the session. • Entire interface must stay in portrait; even when the device is rotated, the content may letterbox but must never switch to landscape. • Include graceful handling for connectivity loss (e.g., offline message with retry). Deliverables 1. Android Studio project (Java or Kotlin) with clear build instructions. 2. Signed release APK ready for sideloading. 3. Brief README covering how to change the website URL and how to disable kiosk mode for maintenance. Acceptance criteria The APK installs on Android 7+ tablets, opens the specified company website full-screen, cannot be rotated or escaped by normal button presses, and recovers cleanly after network interruptions. If you’ve built kiosk or single-purpose WebView apps before, please let me know; a short demo APK or screenshots will help speed up selection.

On most Android 9 TV boxes, portrait is decided in the display settings. Many have no rotation sensor, and the system ignores an app asking for portrait, so HDMI stays landscape. I will request portrait and letterbox if the screen is turned. The first install shows whether your box allows it. No rotation option in the settings, and we find that out before the box goes up on a wall. Screen pinning will not hold the Home key on the remote. A full lock means device owner, set by one command from a computer, which fails if the box already has an account. Sometimes that means a reset first. Those steps go in the README next to the signed APK. The URL sits in a config file. Drop the network and you get a retry page, not a white screen. Your site keeps the face recognition. The app has to allow the USB camera inside the WebView or Android 9 gives the page nothing. I can send the sideload build the day after you award this, and we look at the live preview on your box. Does that camera already look smooth in the box's own browser?

Your kiosk will fail certification if the USB camera cannot maintain 30fps HD streaming while the WebView runs face recognition in parallel. Android TV boxes throttle background processes aggressively, and most developers miss the hardware acceleration flags that prevent frame drops. Quick questions - are you provisioning the device as a Device Owner to enforce lock-task mode programmatically, or expecting manual setup via ADB? And what's your fallback if the camera driver doesn't expose Camera2 API on older TV box firmware? Here's the architectural approach: - KIOSK MODE: Implement DevicePolicyManager with LOCK_TASK_MODE_LOCKED, suppress system UI via immersive flags, and handle SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW permission for overlay blocking. - PORTRAIT LOCK: Force screenOrientation="portrait" in manifest, override onConfigurationChanged to ignore rotation events, and apply DisplayMetrics constraints to prevent letterboxing artifacts. - USB CAMERA INTEGRATION: Use Camera2 API with TEMPLATE_PREVIEW, enable hardware acceleration in WebView settings, and implement SurfaceTexture binding so the camera feed streams directly to your face recognition endpoint without CPU bottlenecks. I've built 4 kiosk deployments for retail and healthcare clients where uptime and camera reliability were non-negotiable. Let's schedule a 15-minute call to confirm your Device Owner provisioning workflow before I start the build.

Hi, I’ve built single-purpose Android/WebView applications before, and the kiosk requirement here needs to be handled at the Android level—not just by hiding navigation buttons. I can build the Kotlin Android app with a full-screen WebView, forced portrait orientation, Lock Task/kiosk behaviour, offline/retry handling, persistent URL configuration, and a maintenance method to disable kiosk mode. For the face-recognition site, I’ll also configure WebView camera permissions and WebRTC support so the USB webcam can be tested for smooth HD capture on your Android TV box. I’ll provide the Android Studio source, signed APK, and clear build/configuration README. I can test the actual target device/browser environment because USB camera behaviour can vary between Android TV boxes. Send me the Android TV box model and your website URL, and I can confirm the camera/WebView approach before development.

As an experienced mobile app developer with over 8 years in the field, I am perfectly suited to handle your project that requires developing a Portrait-Locked Android Kiosk Webview for Android TV Box. Over the years, I have built a variety of high-performance applications including some kiosk apps so I understand the unique challenges and nuances involved. My capabilities in Java and Kotlin, coupled with a proficiency in Android Studio, enable me to create clean, efficient code that meets both current needs and future maintenance demands. One of my notable projects, `PresCrypto`, required building an appointment booking app with strict role-based access control – just as you need to ensure visitors in your web view cannot escape or manipulate the interface through standard button presses. Ensuring smooth operation despite eventuality is something I'm well-versed in. I can handle the graceful handling for connectivity loss aspect with ease, ensuring users see an offline message with retry option when there's no network available. Rigorous testing is part of my work ethic, and this ensures the final deliverables align perfectly with your requirements. With me on board, you can expect not only to have an extremely reliable solution for your kiosk web view but also a comprehensive README that helps you make any future tweaks. Hi, I can deliver a focused Android Studio kiosk application that opens your supplied company site in a full-screen portrait WebView and remains maintainable for future deployments. I’ll implement lock-task/kiosk behavior to restrict Home, Recents and status-bar escape paths, enforce portrait orientation, handle first-run URL configuration, and provide a controlled maintenance exit documented in the README. I’ll add robust connectivity detection with a clear offline/retry state, WebView settings suitable for the face-recognition site, permission handling for the USB/web camera where Android and device firmware expose it, and sensible loading/error states. I’ll test on Android 7+ and the Android 9+ TV box target, including rotation, restart, network interruption, camera permission and repeated launches. I’ll provide the Android Studio source, reproducible build instructions, signed sideload APK and concise URL/kiosk maintenance guide. With 9 years of experience across Android/mobile apps, Java/Kotlin, WebViews, APIs and full-stack web development, I can keep the implementation small and reliable. Which Android TV box model/firmware and kiosk provisioning method are confirmed, and does the face-recognition site already support the target USB camera through Android WebView? Hi, Ankit here. I understand you need a small Android kiosk app that launches into a full screen WebView, locks portrait, blocks Home, Recents, and the status bar, loads your face recognition site, and supports a USB webcam on Android TV boxes running Android 9+. What usually matters most here is the USB camera, since Android TV boxes do not expose USB webcams the way phones do, and WebView cannot reach one through getUserMedia without special handling. A common issue is that the WebView loads fine but the face recognition page cannot see the camera, because the device lacks Camera2 support for external devices or the WebView is missing the right permissions. The tricky part is locking kiosk mode on TV boxes, since lock task mode needs device owner provisioning and Home and Recents behave differently there. My approach would build a Kotlin app with a full screen WebView, portrait lock, lock task mode with device owner setup, a config file for the URL, offline handling with retry, and getUserMedia enabled so the site can reach the USB camera. Does the site use getUserMedia? Looking forward to hearing from you.

I’ve gone through the kiosk requirements carefully, especially the portrait-only behaviour, locked full-screen WebView and USB webcam requirement for real-time face recognition. I can build the Android app so the website launches directly into the kiosk session without exposing normal navigation or exit controls. The WebView can be configured for the supplied URL, with connectivity-loss handling and retry, while the Android side handles fixed portrait orientation and kiosk/lock-task behaviour. I’ll also make sure the USB camera/WebView interaction is tested for smooth operation on the target Android TV box environment rather than treating it as a standard tablet WebView. You’ll receive the Android Studio source, signed release APK and a concise README covering URL changes and maintenance/disable-kiosk steps. Share the target TV box model and website URL when available, and I can confirm the camera/WebView compatibility approach before development.

Hi, I'd be glad to help build a Portrait-Locked Android Kiosk Webview for Android TV Box version 9+ that launches straight into a full-screen WebView, keeps the display permanently in portrait orientation, and prevents users from leaving the app. To achieve this, I will use Android Studio to create a Java or Kotlin project that utilizes the Android WebView component. I will implement a kiosk mode or lock-task mode to block the Home, Recent Apps, and status bar pull-down, ensuring that visitors cannot exit the session. The app will also be designed to handle connectivity loss with a graceful offline message and retry mechanism. Additionally, I will ensure that the entire interface stays in portrait orientation, even when the device is rotated, and that the USB web camera works with the face recognition site in real-time with HD fluency. I can cover: • Android Studio project with clear build instructions • Signed release APK ready for sideloading • Brief README covering how to change the website URL and how to disable kiosk mode for maintenance I work with clear daily progress updates and honest scoping. Please share the final URL of your company website and any specific requirements for the face recognition site, and I can get started right away. Best regards, Gagan
