WHAT WE WANT:
We're planning to release a sitcom-style web series sometime in the fall of 2019/winter of 2020. Each episode is 25 minutes long. I need to find an animation studio willing to take on the project. Scripts are already written and developed, and we will be recording the dialogue before the animation. It should be a balance of good-quality, realistic 2D animation and somewhat fast-paced to account for some of the physical humor.
For now, we just need the pilot, set to release in July of 2019. Depending on how well that performs, we'll decide if we want to proceed with the entire show itself. If you make the pilot however, and we do decide to proceed with the show, you're excepted to animate the rest of it. For reference, there are three seasons, and 15 episodes in each season, except the final one, that has 12. Each episode is approximately 25 minutes long.
What we need now is a reel from you. I attached the scene you'll be animating. After you send me some storyboards/sketches, etc. and if I like your work, I'll send you the recorded dialogue and you can take a crack at animating the scene itself. You'll be compensated with $200 for your time (a little over $100 per minute of animation; scene is about 01:45). I repeat: you'll be paid more than that if we choose you to animate the full pilot, but since we're paying multiple studios for this reel we can't give you an exorbitant amount.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
It's a sitcom-style parody of biographical pictures (think Lincoln, Imitation Game, Hamilton: the Musical, Race, etc.) and historical dramas, making fun of the way we glorify and celebrate the achievements of great men. Specifically, it stars John and Abigail Adams and follows them throughout their lives through the American Revolution and founding of our new nation. It has as much focus on the small family problems as the big historical dramatic elements that many of these movies, plays, TV shows, and textbooks focus on. It asks the question: why, to celebrate people, do we turn them into demigods? Is a realistic, flawed human worth celebrating more than an ideal role model that never truly existed?
The show also aims to teach children and adults history in a fun way, full of likable characters and, of course, jokes. It's primarily a comedy with dramatic elements thrown in. It also has an emphasis on historical realism, hence why we want it animated. It's easy to make things look accurate when you're making it from scratch.
Rose and Matik Productions will hold the copyright to the episodes. That's non-negotiable. On the paperwork, you'll be an author work-for-hire, which means you do not own the rights. However we will make you a claimant, meaning you have full rights to use the animated video on, say, your portfolio without having to go through us first. The script is under a separate copyright, which means if you want to use the final product with the audio you will have to ask us permission first. We'll discuss this more if you're hired.
If we choose for you to animate the pilot in full, you'll sign a contract with us that discusses pay, timeframe, and all that good stuff. Remember, if you agree to animate the pilot, you're also agreeing to animate the rest of the show should it be produced.
