The most important and difficult part of this kind of store is handling digital and physical fulfillment correctly from the same checkout flow, making sure a paid order reliably triggers a secure, time-limited download link for digital items while routing physical items through shipping, without either path failing silently if payment confirmation is delayed. ✅ In a similar project, the main challenge was making sure digital file delivery only happened after payment was truly confirmed, not just on checkout submission, which I solved by using a Lambda function triggered by the payment webhook to generate pre-signed S3 URLs with an expiration window, writing the order and fulfillment status to DynamoDB so it could be reliably tracked, and separating the physical-item flow into its own Lambda path that triggered shipping notifications only for orders containing shippable products. ✅ As a result, digital downloads were delivered reliably right after payment confirmation with no premature or missed deliveries, physical orders triggered the correct shipping and notification flow every time, and the store stayed stable and responsive even during test traffic spikes thanks to the serverless architecture. Hi, there One recommendation up front: keep the storefront and digital fulfilment on AWS, but let a hosted checkout handle the card fields. Card data never touches your infrastructure, PCI stays at the lightest level, and you are not maintaining payment code as rules change. Two things bite later. Pre-signed links get shared, so they should last minutes, be tied to the order and re-issuable from the customer's account, or your file circulates and you pay the bandwidth. A mixed cart also needs shipping suppressed on digital-only orders and tax by buyer location, where most mixed stores get it wrong.
