While it is heard and searched for by many people, what exactly is the Keto diet? This is a diet that promises you to lose weight by changing the body’s source of energy from carbohydrates to fats. It is a detailed eating plan that is made up mostly of fats (80 per cent) and very little (or zero carbohydrates). The basic and most important parts of the keto diet are fish, green vegetables, dairy, eggs, meats and oils. What’s strictly not allowed in the diet are potatoes, fruits, rice and other grains.
The keto diet gives a form of energy, which is different from the energy we get from the prohibited foods mentioned above. The regular diet turns the digested food into molecules of glucose for energy. In keto diet, the body is consciously and intentionally put into a state of ketosis, where fats are released and transformed into ketones. This now becomes the body’s source of energy.
The ketogenic diet is not a new thing. In fact, it has been around for almost a century.
