I’m on Windows and I use a small teleprompter app during live calls and recordings. I need that window permanently pinned in the foreground so I can read it while I share my screen, yet it must stay invisible to everyone else on the call or in the recording. I’ve experimented with Microsoft PowerToys but haven’t found the right combination of settings, shortcuts, or overlays to achieve both “always-on-top” and “local-only” visibility for this single application. If you know how to fine-tune PowerToys, complement it with AutoHotkey, virtual desktop tricks, or any other lightweight method, I’d like you to: • Configure or script the exact workflow on my Windows machine for this specific teleprompter app. • Provide a quick toggle (hotkey or tray icon) so I can turn the overlay on and off mid-meeting. • Supply clear, step-by-step notes or a short screen-recording so I can replicate the setup later. Once it’s set, the teleprompter must stay on top of every window on my screen but remain hidden from any external capture (Zoom, Teams, OBS, etc.). If you’re confident you can make that happen smoothly, let’s connect.

Hello! I can build this exact Windows workflow for your teleprompter — always-on-top for you, while excluded from Zoom/Teams/OBS capture where Windows/app capture APIs allow it. I have solid Windows desktop, .NET, AutoHotkey and automation experience, including custom hotkeys, window management, overlays and multi-monitor setups. I will configure/script the solution for your specific teleprompter, add a simple toggle hotkey/tray control, and provide clear setup notes so you can reproduce it later. I will first verify the app’s window/capture behavior and then implement the lightest reliable solution rather than relying on PowerToys alone.

EVEN IF YOU DON'T HIRE ME, YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH A FREE CONSULTATION. You need a teleprompter window that stays on top of every other window during live calls and recordings, but remains completely invisible to external capture like Zoom, Teams, or OBS. The two hardest parts are keeping it always-on-top while making it truly local-only to your screen. Here's how I'd approach it: - Audit your teleprompter app and Windows setup to identify the best layering method, then test PowerToys or AutoHotkey solutions. - Build a lightweight script that pins the window on top while excluding it from screen capture using Windows composition or API-level filtering. - Deliver a hotkey toggle you can activate mid-meeting, plus step-by-step notes or a short screen recording so you can replicate it anytime. I've worked on automation workflows and custom Windows solutions that require precision timing and hidden-layer configuration, similar to the complexity you're describing here. Let me walk you through a free consultation to map out the exact approach for your setup. Kind regards, Cornelius

Hi, always-on-top AND invisible to Zoom/Teams/OBS is doable on Windows 10 (2004+) and 11. PowerToys can pin the window but can't hide it from capture, which is why the two never worked together for you. What you'll get for your teleprompter app: 1. A small tool that pins the teleprompter above every window and applies Windows' built-in "exclude from capture" setting to that one window: you see it, but screen share and recordings don't. 2. One hotkey (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+T) plus a tray icon to switch it on/off mid-meeting. 3. Tested with Zoom, Teams and OBS (screen and window capture) before I send it. 4. Step-by-step notes and a short screen recording so you can set it up again yourself, no remote session needed. Which teleprompter app do you use, and are you on Windows 10 or 11? Jason

Tiny window, big trick, I can set up the teleprompter with an Always-on-Top toggle and Windows capture exclusion, using AutoHotkey/PowerToys where needed. I’ll configure the hotkey workflow, test it with screen sharing/OBS-style capture, and provide simple setup notes so you can reproduce it.

Hi - I can build this, and I'll say upfront why PowerToys alone can't. "Always on top" is easy. "Invisible to everyone else" needs a different mechanism: Windows has a built-in API for exactly this - SetWindowDisplayAffinity with WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE (Windows 10 2004+). The window stays normal on your screen but renders black in captures that use Desktop Duplication - what Zoom, Teams and OBS display-capture use. The catch, and why PowerToys can't do it: that API only works on a window owned by the calling process. Called against another app's window it fails with ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED. So there are two honest routes. A (recommended): I build you a small teleprompter overlay - my window, my process - so the exclusion is set directly. Always-on-top, adjustable font and opacity, global hotkey, tray icon, remembers position. B (keep your current app): the exclusion must come from inside that process via a small loaded helper. Works, but more fragile across app updates. Tell me which app (name, and whether it is from the Microsoft Store) and your Windows version. For A I can deliver the same day, with a setup guide, a recording and the source. One thing I would rather say now: this defeats Desktop Duplication captures. OBS "Window Capture" aimed at that window can still get it. Happy to start with a small paid test.

Keeping one window always-on-top while excluding it from screen capture is a common ask for streamers and callers, and it comes down to combining a targeted AutoHotkey script with the right window-attribute settings rather than relying on PowerToys alone. I'll build a small script tailored to your teleprompter app, add a hotkey (or tray icon) to toggle the overlay mid-call, and check it against Zoom, Teams, and OBS capture so it stays hidden there while still visible on your own screen. You'll also get a short recording walking through the setup so you can reproduce or adjust it later without needing to reach out again.

Hi! I can write a small AutoHotkey script that keeps your teleprompter window pinned on top of all other windows. Lightweight, no extra software — just run it. I can also add a hotkey to toggle pinning on/off if useful. Quick delivery. Thanks! Cole

PowerToys "Always on Top" can't do the second half of what you need, because it only pins the window; it doesn't hide it from capture. The piece you're missing is a Windows API flag: SetWindowDisplayAffinity with WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE (Windows 10 2004+ / Windows 11). With it, the window stays visible on your monitor but shows up black or empty in Zoom/Teams/Meet screen share, OBS and most recorders. What I'd deliver: - A small AutoHotkey v2 script that finds your teleprompter window by its process name, pins it on top, and applies the exclude-from-capture flag - One hotkey (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+T) to toggle the overlay on/off, plus an optional tray icon - Optional transparency and click-through so it doesn't block what's underneath - Auto-start with Windows if you want it - A one-page guide, plus a quick test with you on a real call to confirm others can't see it One caveat, to be upfront: a few capture tools that grab the whole monitor through older methods may still show it, so we'll test with the exact app you use for calls and recordings. Which teleprompter app is it, and which call/recording software do you use? I can have a working script for you to try within a day.

Hi, I read your post and I've already built a working prototype of this in AutoHotkey v2, so I know the approach works on Windows. It uses a small wrapper window that holds your teleprompter app, stays always on top, and is excluded from screen capture using the Windows display-affinity flag. So you can see it, but OBS/Zoom screen sharing can't. I tested this with OBS display capture. It also has a hotkey and tray menu to show/hide it and toggle the capture exclusion. I tested it with a classic desktop app, but I haven't tried your teleprompter yet. Some apps (especially Microsoft Store apps) can't be embedded this way, so could you tell me which teleprompter app you use and your Windows version? If it won't embed, I have a fallback plan. I can send a screenshot of the OBS preview vs. the real screen so you can see it working. I'll also include a short setup guide so you can run it yourself. Have a great day!

Hi, This is very doable. Windows has a built-in API flag (WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE) that hides a specific window from screen sharing and recordings while keeping it visible on your own screen. PowerToys can't apply it to another app, which is why your tests failed. My approach: 1. Apply the capture-exclusion flag to your teleprompter window using a lightweight open-source tool (Invisiwind), so it's invisible in Zoom, Teams, Meet, OBS, etc. 2. Add an AutoHotkey script that keeps it always on top, with a single hotkey to toggle both features on/off. 3. Give you a short step-by-step guide with screenshots so you can set it up again anytime. Since you'd rather not give remote control, I can guide you through it by chat, and I'll test it with you on a real call recording before you release payment. Which teleprompter app and which video call software do you use? That's all I need to start. Titouan
