Looking for a software developer to reimplement an old C++ Windows only game, multiplayer 2D, tile-based, RPG. Looking for this project to be a good looking 2D or a 3D-lite while still being cross-compatible, open to different art styles to choose from. Seems like Unity would be a good fit for an engine.
The original game has a server/client architecture and at its peak would manage 100+ simultaneous clients in a large, tile based, world. All the art assets are available, and the source code for the client and server is available.
The original game also has editors for creating new maps, quests, items etc with source code available.
The software which should be completed at the end of this task are:
-Cross platform client with chat facilities
-Cloud based server capable of supporting 300 simultaneous users per instance
-Editors for quests, maps and other game elements
The overall aim is to preserve the spirit of the original game by reimplementing most of the existing features.
-Cross platform multiplayer game development experience
-Chrome web client and desktop app
Regular commits to git
I've attached photos of the original game which was originally developed in 2002. I would like a modern version while maintaining the same "feel" which made the game so good in the first place.
