We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer for design consulting for one of our assemblies, specifically two extrusion designs.
Our new assembly is a guillotine cutter, comprised of two (identical) aluminum extrusions separated by springs, that are actuated by an aluminum extruded cam by a user pressing down on the handle.
Our current design, which is in service and will be used as the 'control' for this project, uses square aluminum tubing - however we are moving towards a custom I-beam extrusion and a custom aluminum extrusion for the cam. We need to ensure our new design is at least as strong as the previous (proven) design.
We require someone to optimize and validate our new extrusion designs, this includes
- Determine the ideal extrusion dimensions to achieve desired level of strength, with lowest amount of material volume
- Provide FEA analysis comparing new design with old design
- General aluminum extrusion design advice
