Prototype CORS API connectivity via jQuery overlay between Perl/CGI based system on one server, and PHP based system on another server.
Two existing platforms are being unified for a seamless user experience. A temporary short-term solution was implemented with the Perl/CGI system loading PHP based interfaces into iFrames, with corresponding ID and MD5 hashed unique field value matching for authentication. This was only meant to be a temporary solution. The more permanent solution is being done to replace the iFrame interaction with jQuery based overlay interfaces called up by the Perl/CGI side to load interfaces on the PHP side via CORS API connectivity.
Objectives to be completed in this initial task:
Being provided FTP credentials for a sandbox area on the Perl/CGI based server that runs our "Builder" platform, and a separate set of FTP credentials for a sandbox area on the PHP based server that runs our "Tracker" platform, we would like to see a working prototype that does at least the following:
1) Create a CGI script on the Builder server that automatically opens a modal jQuery overly, and simply loads a PHP script on the PHP server. We already have a [url removed, login to view] include file on the PHP server that checks the database for allowed sites to gain access, so don't worry about that for the purposes of this exercise.
2) In the PHP script loaded via jQuery CORS API, add a simple form that posts to another PHP script, and demonstrate the form values are posted correctly to the posted PHP script in Chrome, Firefox IE and Safari.
3) Also, on the initial PHP script, demonstrate how a URL link can be clicked to load a 3rd PHP script into the same overlay. This link should include a query string, and demonstrate that the query string name value pairs are being properly captured from the PHP script which those values are being passed to in the URL (also in Chrome, Firefox IE and Safari).
4) Demonstrate how sessions can be retained within a jQuery/CORS overlay when both posting or linking to other PHP scripts on the Tracker server (in your sandbox).
5) Clearly illustrate to the team how both methods of posting and linking between PHP pages on the Tracker side, can be utilized as a global solution for integrating the Builder system with the Tracker system, and provide any insight as to the most efficient, secure and scalable considerations for this implementation.
