How I'd approach yours: reconcile as I go rather than transcribing blind and hoping at the end. After each source workbook I'd tie the entered subtotal back to the source subtotal, so a mismatch surfaces at the workbook that caused it instead of showing up as one wrong grand total across the whole file with no way to find it. Column order, date formats and currency symbols get set to your template once at the start rather than cleaned up afterwards. Budget data that has to reconcile fails in a place most people don't check: figures that land in the master as text look identical on screen and sum as zero, and the usual causes are a currency symbol typed into the cell, negatives written in parentheses, and trailing spaces carried out of a PDF or an older workbook. So I run every column through a type check and convert first, then build the totals as live formulas over the entered rows so the sheet computes its own subtotals, then write a small Python pass with openpyxl that sums each source sheet and compares it against the matching block in your master, row count and value both, so every figure is verified and none of it is spot checked. I've done years of Excel and Sheets cleanup and a lot of scraping and normalizing messy product data, so this is ordinary careful work for me. Honest limit: I teach until mid afternoon Pacific, so my working hours are evenings and weekends Pacific time, and if a source sheet doesn't reconcile in your own original I'll flag it and ask you about it, I won't quietly force the number to fit. One question: do you want the master's totals as live formulas, or hardcoded values matching your source exactly?
