This is a conversion of a medication log that reports the exact days when the meds were started and stopped into a data set that shows which medications a person was using when they visit the clinic.
Refer to "medlog by visit manual [url removed, login to view]" and the worked examples for subjects DAT-102-06-13 to DAT-04-107-09, and the raw data for subjects before and after these.
The medications can be started (MedStatus=1), changed (Medstatus=2), or stopped (Medstatus=5) in between visits, but we only want to keep data that shows which Medications (coded by number, colum H) are currently being taken at each VisitDay. Thus, when changes to medications occur prior to, or in between VisitDay(s), we are only interested in the most recent changes.
For each subject (ID), where VisitDay is < the lowest MedChangeDay, 0's need to be entered in columns D-H.
Where VisitDay=MedChangeDay, the medications that were current for immediately prior to VisitDay are entered for that VisitDay.
You will need to keep "bringing forward" medications that are started prior to a visit, but are not changed between Visits. See worked examples.
Similarly, when there are multiple Visits after the last MedChangeDay, the medications will need to be "brought forward" for all subsequent visits, unless there is a change in MedStatus in between those visits which dictates a change.
Finally, "medlog by visit manual [url removed, login to view]" was created by interpolating the data from "Medlog [url removed, login to view]" in between the dates for VisitDay. Approximately 3% of the time, an error was introduced. So, whilst you can use "medlong by visit manual [url removed, login to view]" to make the changes, you will need to cross-check with the data in "Medlog [url removed, login to view]" to ensure that the error is fixed or marked to our attention. Similarly, please annotate the file where data is missing (eg MedChangeDay is missing in 1% of cases).
Accuracy is important in this project.
Alternatively and perhaps more simply, you can use the source data in "medlog Visitdays.xls" and "Medlog 2014Feb24.xls" to create the desired medlog by visit data file. This will remove the need to cross check the data.
I have added a worked example in the file "medlog by visit worked example.xlsx" to give you a better idea of what is required.
