Excel turn off decimal auto placement

then I enter 1000, it goes at 10.00 and don't like this Would like if I enter 1000 that I get 1000 and if I enter 999.10 that I get 999.10 and that it is clear and does not put decimal automatically. Beg you to please understand my Cancer Ordeal and being out of work and hope this is something easy for about $12 or so and will be something person on this topic would know and understand.
