first thing, and do this before you hire anyone, me included: stop using that computer for anything you can avoid. if the files really were deleted, every write to the drive can land on top of them, and installing recovery software onto the same drive is the most common way people destroy exactly what they were trying to save. now the part that should encourage you. windows system restore does not delete your documents. by design it rolls back system files, the registry, drivers and installed programs, and leaves personal files alone. so when the documents folder looks empty afterwards, deletion is usually not what happened. three things i would check, in this order. whether you are signed into a different or temporary profile, in which case your files are sitting under the old user folder rather than lost. whether the folder was redirected to cloud storage and has quietly unlinked. and previous versions on the folder itself, which often still holds a copy from before. if all three come up empty, then it is genuine recovery, and that carries an honest caveat: the odds depend on how much the drive has been written to since, and nobody can promise a named file back. anyone who does is guessing. what happened immediately before the restore, and is there more than one user account on the machine?
