Dear Prospective Employer, I would be very interested indeed in working with you on this project. I am new to Freelancer, and most of my work has involved writing and research assignments. I have, however, edited a novel before so have experience to base this application upon. In that case, I took just over 20 days to cover 300 pages and worked through the assignment steadily (and also from hard copy) so as to ensure a high level of accuracy and focus. My hard copy annotations were then transcribed onto a tracked copy in MS Word, and I finished the project with a second read through, which was useful in attending to some matters of continuity. You can get an indication of the quality of my work through my Freelancer reviews and I would be delighted to provide a sample of my editing for you to look through. My approach to editing is to be respectful of and sensitive to the writer's style; however, I am certainly prepared to be interventionist if and when this is appropriate as you would see from the sample (or I could mark up a chapter from one of your novels as a demonstration assignment). I am fully versed in Mark Up / Comment techniques, of course, and can provide Freelancer references as appropriate. My own background is in teaching in leading UK independent schools and I have an undergraduate degree and doctorate from Cambridge University in History. I am an avid reader of (good) fiction. I have an odd mixture o talent in this area of expertise - as a supervisor in law enforcement, I have had to proofread and edit thousands of reports, each telling their own story of a crime or some other occurrence.
