This project is to design the electronics for a very simple vehicular LED lighting system. You will be responsible for the design and prototype assembly.
The project will comprise of three parts.
Transmitter: This device will attach to the vehicle through the trailer connector and will receive as input running power, left turn signal, right turn signal, running light and brake light signals. It will transmit wirelessly and encoded to the receiver.
Transceiver: This device will receive encoded signals wirelessly from the Transmitter and then turn on the corresponding LED lights through MOSFETs. It will be battery powered (12v) The Transmitter and Receiver will need to pair to each other in some manner. It will also transmit a few details to the Reporter such as battery level, which lights are flashing etc... It will have two modes. On and Off. In On mode, it will work normally. In Off mode, it will transmit a "I've just been turned off" message to the Reporter for 60 seconds. This will be accomplished by ways of a mechanic on-on switch. When in Off-mode it should consume little or no power after the 60 seconds.
Reporter: This device will receive a signal from the Transceiver and display the information by a simple LCD or various LEDs. It will also detect if the Transmitter is moved too far away and signal an audio/visual alarm. **The development of the Reporter is not included in this project. It is only mentioned here because the Transceiver needs the capability to send information to the reporter later.**
I think 8-but Microchip MCUs and/or combo MCU/RF are the best bet here.
Your deliverable will be a working prototype (materials at my cost), electronic design, PCB layout and BOM.
Full and clear details for this project are available for the successful candidate or upon request. We are fairly well organized and should be able to explain everything simply and clearly the first time. Your input and suggestions will of course be strongly considered when it comes to design and usability. I have some good pictures of a competitors solution. (it is obscured by waterproofing)
I also have a almost working designs that you may want to work off of. It actually works quite well, but there is a defect where sometimes some of the inputs on the transmitter go dead. You could solve this problem. I've attached this schematic. (you may find it a little confusing, it uses one PCB design for both RX and TX, with different components - this is not necessary)
