Solenoid Design in COMSOL Multiphysics Application Builder

Job Description:

Using COMSOL Application builder, create an App for solenoid design. This is the first step for a more complicated App that the selected freelancer might participate on. The GUI / App should be friendly and professional.

Work Package 1: Solenoid

Technical Objective: Create solenoid designs from scratch or import existing designs from CAD software. Specify design parameters such as number of turns, wire diameter, length, and radius.

Tasks:

1. Design Develop a user interface for creating new solenoid designs from scratch or importing existing designs from CAD software.

2. Create a database of common materials used in solenoid construction, including their properties such as electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and melting point.

3. Implement a function to calculate the number of turns required for a given magnetic field strength and desired solenoid geometry.

4. Implement a function to calculate the wire diameter required for a given current and desired resistance.

5. Implement a function to determine the length and radius of the solenoid based on the desired number of turns, wire diameter, and geometry.

6. Allow users to select the wire shape (circular or square) for their solenoid design.

7. Implement error checking to ensure that the selected design parameters are physically feasible and valid.

8. Provide a way to visualize the created solenoid design in 2D or 3D.

9. Allow users to save and export their solenoid designs in a variety of formats, including CAD files and image files.

Deliverable: A user-friendly interface for designing solenoids with specified design parameters.

Work Package 2: Material Selection

Technical Objective: Choose from a wide range of materials commonly used in solenoid construction. The app includes a material database with information on material properties such as electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and melting point.

Tasks:

1. Develop a database of materials commonly used in solenoid construction, along with their properties such as electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and melting point.

2. Provide a user interface for selecting materials and their associated properties.

3. Implement error checking to ensure that the selected materials are physically feasible and valid.

Deliverable: A material selection feature that enables users to choose from a wide range of materials commonly used in solenoid construction.

Work Package 3: Electromagnetic Analysis

Technical Objectives: Simulate the electromagnetic behavior of solenoids under various conditions, including varying input voltage and current. Visualize the electromagnetic field distribution, flux density, and magnetic field lines.

Tasks:

1. Implement a simulation engine that can simulate the electromagnetic behavior of solenoids under various conditions.

2. Allow users to vary input voltage and current to the solenoid and observe the resulting electromagnetic field distribution, flux density, and magnetic field lines.

3. Provide a way to visualize the electromagnetic behavior of the solenoid in 2D or 3D.

Deliverable: A simulation engine that can accurately predict the electromagnetic behavior of solenoids under various conditions.

- Bonus for time ( ~ 2 work packages per week)

- A second bonus for performance

Each work package should have 2 documents: a report explaining the work package from a technical point of view and a report explaining (with screenshots) how the app was built.

All work should be parametric and understanding further work will be done and the freelancer might work in the future with others.
