I want to make an EFIS - this is a service used by pilots at an airfield. The device is normally in listen mode - when it gets three clicks about 1 second apart, it goes into transmit mode. I would guess that pulling a GPIO pin low would work for that. It then reads out a brief text file with the weather conditions. I can handle the preparation of that. The Pi is interfaced to a radio as an input/output device - that will just be a microphone/sound output thing
I would expect to maybe be basing the thing around SOX, but as the whole sound thing is a bit new for me I will accept whatever. I expect this to be running on the same Pi that is operating a weather station ... see [login to view URL],nz for what I am doing. 4 pics plus a weather report (from weewx) uploaded every 15 minutes or so via a cellular modem.
