I need schematic capture + PCB layout for a small automotive control module. Firmware is mine — this is schematic and layout only. It's a retrofit controller for power-folding car door mirrors. The board sits inside a car door, watches the vehicle's door-lock wiring for lock/unlock commands, and drives two small DC gear motors. Runs off the car battery and is asleep almost all the time. DELIVERABLES Schematic, PCB layout, Gerbers + NC drill + fab drawing + pick-and-place, BOM with manufacturer part numbers and in-stock distributor refs (LCSC/Mouser), native source files (KiCad preferred), STEP or 3D render, one revision round. I'll handle manufacturing. KEY CONSTRAINTS - Sleep current under 100uA. It's on permanent battery and the vehicle's total parasitic budget is 30mA. This rules out a lot of common parts — a 7805 alone is 5mA. - Automotive 12V: 14.5V charging, load dump, cold crank. ISO 7637-2. - Inputs tap live door-lock circuits fed by a 30A fuse. High-impedance taps only, and no failure of this board may ever stop the car's doors locking. - Lives in a door cavity: condensation, 70C+, vibration. 105C caps minimum. There's a USB-C port for diagnostics that needs proper sealing. ALREADY FIXED (my spec explains why) ATtiny3217 SOIC-24, two DRV8871 motor drivers, low-Iq automotive LDO, discrete transistor input stages, P-FET reverse-polarity protection, MCU-switched motor rail, CH340N USB bridge powered only while USB is connected, W25Q32 SPI flash for onboard logging. Roughly 55x45mm, nine external connections plus USB-C. Layer count and layout are your call. There is no existing schematic — you'd work from my written specification, which I'll share with shortlisted designers. PLEASE REPLY WITH 1. Which EDA tool you deliver native files in 2. Whether you've done 12V automotive work, with one example 3. Price, and whether the revision round is included 4. Timeline to first draft 5. Anything in the fixed list you'd change, and why If you read the spec and something looks wrong, I want to hear it. I'd rather work with someone who pushes back than someone who silently builds what I asked for.

Hi, i am embedded system engineer with 11 years of experience, according your question 1. I mainly use KiCAD, so i will deliver KiCAD project along with the necessary manufacturing file 2. I've done plenty of automotive board, like boat monitoring with 2 different/separate lead acid battery, transmission control and emulation 3. With this price i can over lifetime of revision if its my design flaw, but may be only 2 of additional features 4. First schematic and board layout, i can done it within a week 5. I think mostly power system, there is TI chip that consume less than 100uA and its DC DC which is better than linear regulator like 7805 which will convert most of it as a heat because the input is 12v. Perhaps may be the microcontroller, what's the parameter of using ATTiny that may be we can discuss Let me know if you are interested

The critical constraint here is the sleep current under 100uA for a device running off the car battery, which immediately rules out most standard microcontrollers with internal regulators or active peripherals. I'd go with a low-power PIC microcontroller, specifically something like a PIC12F or PIC16F series that has a very deep sleep mode and minimal quiescent current, which is crucial for staying under your 30mA total parasitic budget. I will deliver a schematic and PCB layout using KiCad, also providing Gerbers, NC drill files, a fabrication drawing, pick-and-place data, and a BOM with manufacturer part numbers and LCSC/Mouser distributor references. The source files will be native KiCad, also a STEP file of the final board. The one thing left underspecified is the exact voltage tolerance of the door-lock wiring signal. I will assume a standard automotive 12V system with potential transient spikes, and design input protection accordingly. What is the expected range of signal levels and durations for the lock/unlock commands? I will have the schematic and initial PCB layout done within the first day or two. My 5.0 rating across 10 reviews on here, and Preferred Freelancer status, are factual.

I can take your written specification and develop the complete schematic and PCB layout while challenging any design decisions that could create reliability or automotive-compliance issues. **1. EDA tool I can deliver native KiCad source files, including schematic, PCB layout, libraries, fabrication outputs, and 3D STEP/model data. **2. Automotive experience I have experience designing embedded electronics for vehicle/12–48 V environments, including DC power protection, reverse-polarity protection, transient handling, MCU-controlled loads, motor drivers, and low-power systems. For this design, I would specifically review ISO 7637-2/load-dump protection, cold-crank behavior, input protection, grounding, and EMC-sensitive routing. **3. Initial technical review I would not blindly implement the fixed component list. In particular, I would verify the selected LDO's real automotive transient/load-dump capability and <100 µA sleep budget, the P-FET reverse-polarity arrangement, input-stage fault behavior, DRV8871 standby/current behavior, USB/CH340N isolation from the permanent battery domain, and thermal/derating requirements for the 70°C+ door environment. I’m available to start immediately and can review your detailed specification before the schematic is finalized. Best regards,

Designing a PCB for a retrofit controller in automotive applications presents unique challenges, especially concerning low sleep current and environmental resilience. Your requirement for a schematic and layout for the power-folding door mirrors is clear, and I appreciate the emphasis on ensuring the board does not interfere with the vehicle's locking mechanisms. I use KiCad for delivering native files, ensuring compatibility with your requirements. My experience includes designing automotive-grade circuits, such as a battery management system that operated under similar constraints, specifically focusing on low quiescent current and high-temperature resilience. The price for this project, including one revision round, would be $1,200. I can provide the first draft in 3 weeks. I would suggest considering an integrated LDO with a sleep mode feature to optimize power consumption further, although it depends on your component preferences. Are there specific design constraints or dimensions you want me to prioritize beyond what's listed? Best, Junaid
