Need an Excel function. Simple string handling

Excel function RootWord(). It takes any word as input and outputs the root word. I have a list of word endings attached to this project. Example inputs/outputs: budgetary = budget, wonderful = wonder, heroic = hero, humorous = huemor, laughing = laugh. Please design it so I can easily add more suffixes to the list. I would like to use it in a form like =RootWord(InputWord)
