My mother is 103 years old. She has madicare and madicaid (in Maryland). She is in the hospital right now, and she needs to go to a long term care facility. There is a nice facility (non profit) in DC sponsored by a church would like to take her. But her madicard is in Maryland. Would you please help me transfer her Madicaid from Maryland to Washington DC? She have a DC residence to use. How long does it take from MD to DC? How much I need to pay the lawyer fee?

Hi there, I can assist with transferring your mother’s Medicaid coverage from Maryland to Washington, DC and coordinating the process so she can be considered for admission to the nonprofit long-term-care facility. I understand that she is currently hospitalized, is 103 years old, has both Medicare and Maryland Medicaid, and has a DC residence available. I can review the Medicaid eligibility and residency requirements, coordinate with the hospital discharge planner and the prospective facility, prepare the necessary applications and supporting documentation, and help address any issues that could delay the transition. DC Medicaid has an Institutional Care Program specifically covering eligible nursing-facility residents, and DC’s rules do not impose a minimum period of prior DC residence for an institutionalized individual who meets the applicable residency requirements. (DHCF) I can also help determine the most appropriate way to close/transition the Maryland Medicaid case and apply for DC Medicaid without creating an unnecessary gap in coverage.

I can assist with navigating your mother’s transition from Maryland Medicaid to DC Medicaid so she can move into the nonprofit long-term care facility in Washington, DC. I can review her current Medicaid/Medicare status, help determine the appropriate DC Medicaid long-term-care application and residency requirements, coordinate the necessary documentation, and communicate with the relevant agencies and facility to help avoid unnecessary delays. Because she is currently hospitalized and needs long-term care promptly, I would also focus on maintaining appropriate coverage during the transition and determining whether any expedited process is available. DC’s published guidance indicates that new long-term-care Medicaid applications generally have a processing timeframe of about 45 days, although the actual timeframe can vary depending on the case and documentation. I would be happy to discuss the specific circumstances, expected timeline, and my legal fee after reviewing her situation.
