I have an early-stage Game Boy Advance ROM that already boots and shows a proof-of-concept level. Now I’m ready to turn it into the full game I’ve envisioned. What I still need is solid programming work for all remaining gameplay systems plus the graphics/animation layer, and I want every routine structured so it can be inspected through a LUA console (e.g. mGBA/BizHawk scripting). Here is where you come in: • Expand and refine the core gameplay mechanics I’ve sketched out. Enemy AI, collision, item logic and level scripting still have to be built. • Integrate new sprite sheets, tile sets and animation frames that I will provide or commission during development, alongside brand-new character art and other assets. • Keep the codebase clean, well-commented in C / ASM (your choice), and expose hooks that a LUA script can access for debugging and modding. • Produce milestone builds on real hardware or accurate emulators so we can test performance early. I’m targeting a tight turnaround—ideally you can start right away and push frequent playable builds until we hit the final ROM. Alongside the compiled .gba file, I’ll need the full source, makefiles and a short read-me explaining the LUA entry points. If you have shipped or modded GBA titles before and are comfortable with toolchains like devkitARM, Tonc, or agbcc, let’s talk and get this rolling ASAP.

Hi, Serdar here from The Colony⚡ The LUA-inspectable requirement is a smart call, and it collides with the hardware in one specific way worth planning around: the console reads memory, so every system a LUA script needs to inspect has to keep its state in a known, stable RAM layout — game state in documented structs at fixed addresses, not scattered in registers or locals. Decide that at the start and your debug/mod hooks are just clean memory reads; retrofit it later and it's a rewrite. The other constraint governs everything on GBA: cycles. Enemy AI, collision and item logic all run inside one frame on a 16MHz ARM7, and naive collision — checking every actor against every other — blows the budget fast. So it needs spatial partitioning from the first version, not after it starts dropping frames. I've written C and ARM assembly against GBA hardware with devkitARM and Tonc. How I'd work: • Game state in documented structs at stable addresses, so LUA reads stay clean. • Collision and AI budgeted per frame, profiled on real timing. • Sprite/tile/animation integration through a defined asset pipeline, so new art drops in without code changes. • Frequent builds tested in mGBA and on hardware. • C by default, ASM only where the profiler demands it. • Full source, makefiles, README on the LUA entry points. Two quick things: 1. Genre and rough actor count on screen? 2. Cartridge hardware or emulator the final target? Thanks, Serdar.

I can take your existing bootable GBA ROM and build out the remaining systems without breaking the current proof-of-concept. I’d keep the code modular and commented in C/ASM, make enemy AI, collision, items, and level scripting data-driven, and expose clear LUA hooks for mGBA/BizHawk debugging and modding. New sprites, tiles, and animations can be integrated as they arrive while respecting VRAM/OAM and frame-time constraints. I’m comfortable with devkitARM, Tonc, and agbcc, and I’ll deliver playable .gba builds plus full source, makefiles, and a short readme documenting the LUA entry points.

Hi, I can take the existing GBA ROM from its current proof-of-concept state through the remaining gameplay systems and a polished vertical slice, working directly with C/ARM assembly and a devkitARM-based build pipeline. I can structure enemy AI, collision, items, level scripting, sprite/tile integration and animation around the GBA's memory and performance constraints, with clean source, Makefiles and reproducible .gba builds. devkitARM is the established GBA homebrew toolchain, and mGBA provides Lua scripting with memory access, callbacks and emulator tooling that can support the requested debugging/modding workflow. Questione 1: Can you provide the current ROM/source, build environment and existing gameplay documentation so I can assess the current architecture before extending it? Questione 2: Which gameplay systems and level should be treated as the first milestone for the initial hardware/emulator build? Regards, Houssame.

The part I would define first is the Lua/debug interface, because emulator Lua can inspect memory and CPU state, but arbitrary C/ASM routines need deliberate instrumentation if you want reliable modding and automated testing. I would keep a documented debug/state block in GBA memory with stable structures for player, enemies, collision, items, level state and events, plus controlled command hooks that mGBA/BizHawk Lua scripts can read or trigger. For Phase 1 I would take over the existing ROM/build, implement the collision, enemy/AI, item and level-script foundations, integrate the sprite/tile animation pipeline, and deliver one complete playable vertical slice with Lua debugging/test scripts. Deliverables include the milestone ROM, full C/ASM source, makefiles, Lua hooks/scripts and technical README.

Hey, Just finished a similar GBA title for a client—full gameplay engine, sprite sheet integration, and a LUA‑friendly hook system that worked great on mGBA/BizHawk. I’m the perfect fit for turning your proof‑of‑concept into a polished game. I specialize in C/ASM on devkitARM, Tonc, and agbcc, building clean, well‑commented code with exposed LUA hooks for debugging and modding. I’ll flesh out enemy AI, collision, item logic, level scripting, and bring in your new sprite sheets and tiles. Every build will run on real hardware and emulators so we hit performance targets early. Multiple 5‑star reviews on GBA projects, asset integration, and emulator testing. Let’s chat—worst case I’ll drop a free consultation and some ideas to kick things off. Chris | Lead Developer | Novatech

Hi, starting with your existing ROM, build setup, and LUA hook requirements. Turning your proof of concept level into a complete GBA game with enemy AI, collision, item logic, and level scripting is the goal. Previously I have worked on GBA homebrew where devkitARM and Tonc routines had to stay clean enough for scripted debugging. I would build the gameplay systems in C with ASM where performance demands it, integrate your sprite sheets and animation frames as they arrive, and expose LUA entry points through mGBA so you can inspect state during play. Expect frequent playable builds so we catch performance issues early. I am determined to win this project and confident I can deliver high quality results within your deadline if awarded. Talk soon.

Hi, I’m a Senior Software Engineer with 20+ years of experience, focused on game logic and low-level programming. I have gone through your specific requirement for GBA gameplay development. I would start with C rather than hand-written ASM, since your gameplay code needs to stay easy to inspect and change while the LUA hooks expose useful state. I can review the bootable ROM and map out the remaining gameplay routines, then work through enemy AI, collision and item logic. I would also connect your supplied art to the animation and tile flow, with mGBA checks for performance as each playable build takes shape. I can send relevant project details and code samples privately. Is the current ROM built with devkitARM, Tonc, agbcc, or a different setup? Which gameplay mechanics are already working, and what is still only sketched out? Do you have a current LUA script or list of debug values and entry points you want to preserve? Free for a quick call? Or answer here and I will map out the first steps. Dev Singh

Hi there, The hard part is not just building out gameplay systems; it's ensuring that everything is structured for easy inspection and modding through LUA. I can refine your core mechanics, focusing on enemy AI, collision detection, and item logic, while integrating your assets like sprite sheets and animations. My approach will involve clean coding standards in C/ASM, with clear hooks for LUA scripting to facilitate debugging. To maintain quality, I suggest a phased plan: first, we solidify the gameplay mechanics and integrate assets, followed by producing milestone builds for testing on hardware or emulators. Are there specific features or mechanics you want to prioritize in the initial phase? Looking forward to discussing the details in chat.
