I am looking to create a hybrid table/graph on my website. This table/graph will be comparing the mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties (about 12 unique properties all in different units) of about 10 different materials.
I want this item to serve two purposes: One - convey the technical details in a clear and concise manner (as nearly any well formatted table would). Two - be dynamic and be able to visualize a single property for all materials in the form of a bar chart.
Basically, when you are looking over the chart you can select a single property and then the table will transform into a graph comparing that single property against all of the materials in the chart via a bar graph. When done, simply click again and it will turn back into a chart where you can select a different property to compare.
If this is too complex, I suppose the table could link to a graph above the chart that would reflect whichever property was selected. This is a less elegant solution but may be technically much easier/cheaper.
I am not entirely sure how this can technically be achieved, but I'm sure it is possible. The visual design is very important - the table and graphs need to have a clean/modern design/feel and not look like something that was just made in 1995 in excel. Smooth transitions are also important.
