Primary purpose of the project is to create a corporate logo for Ahoy Printing Company. This is a small, community-focused local printing company that serves an immediate geographic area. We are near the coast in the state of Maine.
The company is over 100 years old, and I am newly the third owner. The current name of the company is Hoy Printing Corporation. Where my existing printing business already has kind of a nautical theme, and because I'd like to keep a connection with the past, I came up with the name Ahoy Printing Company. The logo can be read either "Ahoy! Printing Company" or "Ahoy Printing" (with or without the exclamation point). A tag line, if used, would read "Expert Print, Mail & Marketing"
The priorities of the logo are that it is clean and professional, but we're open to it being a little fun as well. One idea my creative team thought of was to create an origami logo. Images that can be incorporated into the logo include, but not necessarily in this order: (1) tugboat (2) ship or sails (3) captain's wheel (4) pirate (5) anchor, etc. Perhaps an image isn't even used, and the strength of the logo resides in the logo mark "Ahoy!"
Colors: I tend to prefer that the logo be 2 or 3 Pantone colors, but I'm open to it being full-color as well. It should be capable of being used in a monochrome space, either in black or reversed out of a color. It MUST be a true vector file.
The logo will be used on such pieces as: business cards, brochures, promotional advertising products, signage, shipping labels, invoices, note pads, envelopes, etc. It should be flexible enough to be used in corporate designs.
Depending on how the logo-mark is created, one idea I thought of was to die-cut out the "A" in "Ahoy" in some pieces like the business cards. Some visual separation between the "A" and the remaining "hoy" helps to honor the tradition of the former name.
Another mark we use on some of our identity pieces is the attached "Print Local" graphic. This is something we developed to help emphasize our message that companies should print locally. It would be great if our corporate logo could work in conjunction with this mark, but it's not necessary (it was developed for our other small location called "Southport Printing").
A couple of sample layouts should/could include (these don't necessarily have to be final; we may tweak ourselves because the logo is the real priority--just want to see ideas of how it could work on some pieces):
• Business Card
• 4x3 Shipping Label
• #10 Envelope
