Beam Replacement

Residential project, I am finishing out a basement on a 1958 home that currently has a 3 ply 2X8 Pine wood beam with 8' column spacing using 3 1/2" steel tubing 1/4" wall columns. I want to remove one column and have a 16'span so I do not have a column in the middle of a room. This is a main support wall that is supporting a floor, and a ceiling, this is a ranch style home with a basement. There are no current issues with anything, I want to use a steel beam to keep the depth of the beam the same or even less. I was thinking about a W6x15 steel I beam .
