We have a Word Press site that uses the free version of The Events Calendar. We are looking for a custom program so only people with a generic password (1234) can see one of the event categories. We do not want a separate calendar, we just want one of the event categories to not be able to be seen on the main calendar without inputting a generic password. We also would like the categories to show on the main calendar page without having to upgrade to the paid version of this plug in. (if that is possible with custom programming)

Hiding one event category behind a generic password (1234) while keeping everything else visible on your main calendar is very doable with custom code on the free version of The Events Calendar—no paid upgrade needed. My approach is a small custom plugin that hooks into the calendar query: by default it filters out that protected category so it stays hidden on the main calendar, and when a visitor enters the correct password it sets a simple session/cookie flag that unhides those events for them only. I'll also add the category-display-on-main-calendar behaviour you mentioned via the plugin's template hooks, so you get that feature without upgrading. It'll be lightweight, won't touch your theme or break on plugin updates, and I'll test it thoroughly on both desktop and mobile before hand-over. I can start right away.

Hi there, We understand you need a custom solution for The Events Calendar WordPress plugin to restrict access to a specific event category using a generic password (1234), without creating a separate calendar. Our team at Webbook Studio has experience with custom PHP development and WordPress plugin customization, having worked on similar projects such as a learning platform website for children and a website for an electric bike company, both utilizing PHP and WordPress. We can deliver a customized solution that meets your requirements, including displaying categories on the main calendar page without upgrading to the paid version of the plugin. One question: Would you like the password-protected category to be completely hidden from the main calendar, or just not clickable/accessable without the password? Feel free to message us to discuss the details! — Webbook Studio

Hi — Elias here from Miami. I see you're looking to enhance your WordPress site using The Events Calendar. It’s great that you're aiming to leverage this tool for better event management. What usually matters most here is how well the customizations align with your site's performance and user experience. The tricky part is ensuring that the custom code doesn't interfere with future updates or existing functionalities, especially concerning data integrity and user permissions. My approach would focus on structuring the code in a modular way, ensuring future changes can be integrated smoothly. I prioritize maintainability by following best practices in PHP and WordPress development, helping to avoid common pitfalls that could affect reliability. I’ve worked on similar projects requiring custom WordPress solutions and have successfully navigated the complexities involved. This experience allows me to identify potential risks early. A few questions to better understand the scope: Q1 – What specific features or functionalities do you want to add or modify in The Events Calendar? Q2 – Are there any existing plugins or themes we should consider for compatibility? Q3 – How do you envision user roles interacting with the event features? Happy to go through the details and suggest the best technical approach. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Good to see this project, I will build a custom plugin that hooks into The Events Calendar's query layer to hide your protected event category from the main calendar until a visitor enters the generic password (1234). Once authenticated, those events appear inline on the same calendar, no separate view needed. I will also register category filters on the main calendar page through custom code so you stay on the free plugin tier. You will get a short update at the end of each day during the build. Questions: 1) Should the password prompt appear as a small form above the calendar, or as a modal overlay? 2) Does the protected category need to stay hidden from search results and direct URL access as well? Share your site URL and I will review your current Events Calendar setup tonight, then outline the exact approach. Looking forward to discussing further. Best regards, Kamran
