And I would like to ask you following things, which are associated with an online ordering process for digital goods : - Which types of digital files you are selling? - Do you have piracy prevention for the sold digital files using license/Serial keys? - How are you immediately allowing the buyers to download the digital files? Are you showing the link for download immediately to user after successful checkout or also you are emailing that download link to buyer? - For how much time that download link is available to a buyer? - Which payment gateway/service you are using? Let me know. Besides this following could be possible solutions : - Most of the fraud orders are created by technical friendly buyers who at the time of shopping cart/checkout can debug the code and can change the Total value of cart being displayed on the page, and normally the same value is posted to the payment gateway we use for the checkout process. To avoid this we can try saving the shopping cart total value and other user credentials in sessions and instead of posting these details from page we can post it from session. - Another option we can try is matching the Payment Success Notification details received from the Payment Gateway with the Actual DB details to cross check the pricing of the items bought These are the possible solutions, but there could be more ideas after we have answers of our queries posted above. When in comes to battle the Fraud there are multiple options to do it, all of them needs to be done before approving payments. Option 1: Shop around multiple cloud based API's that takes the Order details and suggests you to good to go or decline it, some of the examples are Subuno, Sift Science etc Option 2: If you are using any payment gateway services say Stripe, Apple pay etc then I would say you should check with them on the packages they are offering as it is part of that service. Option 3: To build our own Fraud detecting system, this gives a lot of flexibility and also not exposing our consumer details to any other 3rd party companies, I recommend that. If you are planning to go for options 3, then I need to understand how order captured, this enables us to write algorithims on case to case basis to identify the common patterns by identifying the 1. Order total 2. Shipment 3. Cards 4. Address, email etc 5. Refunds Please feel free to message me to discuss further on this.

Its not a 100% clear but sounds like you just want to know how to protect your good and want to do it after. Digital Goods can mean alot anything Software, Media etc.. You not clear if your want to protect your content OR if you want to protect the content delivery system. To be sure that the person who paid for it received it. If it is the later then I think some simple logging of the purchase and download can solve a bit of fraud as well as maybe even sending directly to the purchase email.
