MySQL DB and Tomcat tuning

I have an existing web site hosted by [url removed, login to view] that needs to run faster. I'd like someone to focus on tuning the database portion of the application. Currently the site gets about 3 million page views a month. To give you a better idea of the scope of the project, the MySQL database has 10 tables. The number of records in these tables are:

New rows are frequently added to the largest tables, but data is rarely deleted.
There are probably only about a dozen JSP pages that account for 95 percent of the sites activity. All of these JSP pages access the database by calling methods in a single java class. This java class has about 2400 lines of code and uses JDBC PreparedStatements to access the database.
My plan would be to setup a copy of the site on another server and have you use some program to simulate users accessing the application. You'd need to measure the site's performance under this simulated user load. Then gradually increase the number of users and monitor the site's performance. Then you could make whatever changes you think are necessary and retest how the application responds.
