Project: Improving Clause Highlighting in Legal PDF Analysis App Context I have developed (with Visual Studio Code and Cursor) a fully functional web application that: Allows drag & drop of a PDF (contracts, terms & conditions, etc.), Extracts the text (from both native PDFs and scanned PDFs via Mistral OCR), Analyses clauses, Highlights clauses that may be problematic, Allows clicking on each highlighted clause to display recommendations and relevant case law. The system works, but highlighting is not accurate enough (false positives/negatives, misalignment between text and highlights, incorrect click targets). I’m looking for a freelancer to improve only the highlighting system so it becomes more precise, stable, and reliable. Goal Improve mapping accuracy between detected text and displayed highlights. Remove misalignments and ensure highlights cover the exact intended text. Reduce detection errors caused by layout (line breaks, columns, special characters). Ensure clicking a highlight opens the correct clause details. Keep current architecture and APIs intact. Expected Work The freelancer should: Fix text-to-highlight alignment so the highlighted area matches the detected clause exactly. Handle line breaks, multi-column layouts, and special characters correctly. Implement a robust method that works for both native PDFs and OCR-extracted text (handling OCR noise). Ensure highlights remain accurate after text normalization/cleaning. Maintain smooth performance (fast analysis, no UI freezing). Deliver clean, well-commented code integrated into the current project. Constraints Project is already in production — improve existing code, no full rewrite. All PDFs and code are confidential (NDA may be required). No document storage after project completion. Provided Current source code, Sample PDFs (native + scanned), API keys (test mode), List of clause types currently detected. Proposal Requirements Please include: Estimated time to complete the improvement. Total fixed cost for the project. Short technical approach (alignment method, OCR handling, etc.). Relevant past experience with PDF text processing, OCR, and highlighting. Selection Criteria Highlight accuracy (max ±1–2 characters tolerance). Compatibility with both native and scanned PDFs. Application remains fast and stable after integration. Clean, documented code.
