JAVA PLATFORM ENTERPRISE EDITION 7 (Java EE 7)
This assessment is designed to measure the proficiency of developers who develop, deploy, and
administer distributed enterprise applications using Java Enterprise Edition technologies through version
7. The Secure Evaluation Mode and Remote versions of this test will contain a minimum of 54 questions
and will require a typical time of 64 minutes. The Secure Interview Mode and QwikChek versions will
provide as many questions as the test taker can answer within an approximate 40 minute time limit.
Following is a description of each sub-topic on the test:
Web Server Programming Using Servlets measures ability to develop Java EE 7 Web applications using
servlets. It covers servlet lifecycle, request and response handling, and conversational state
Enterprise Java Beans 3.2 measures the ability to develop and use Session and Entity EJBs and an
understanding of the issues surrounding EJB 3.2 development in developing Java EE 7 Web applications.
Using XML and JSON in Enterprise Applications examines ability to create, read, and modify XML and
JSON documents within Java EE 7 applications using the underlying technologies JAXP, JAXB, and the
Java API for JSON.
Accessing Resources checks understanding of the interrelated concepts of JNDI (Java Naming and
Directory Interface) and Resource Injection in Java EE 7 enterprise applications and when and how to use
Building and Using Web Services test understanding of the key Java technologies providing Web Service
support for Java EE 7 applications, including JAX-WS and Websockets.
Java Persistence: Relationships and Queries measures knowledge of techniques for Object-Relational
mapping using the Java Persistence API, including its use in persisting EJBs in creating Java EE 7
Asynchronous Integration Using Messaging and JMS evaluates understanding and knowledge of
messaging using JMS (Java Message Service) including how this works with message driven EJBs in
creating Java EE 7 applications.
Transaction Management tests knowledge of transactions in Java EE 7 enterprise applications, how these
are managed using the Java Transaction API, and how to write successful JTA code.
Database Access Using JDBC measures understanding of JDBC and JPA in creating Java EE 7 applications.
While not strictly a part of the Java specification, nearly all Java applications access a database.
Integration with Legacy Systems and E-mail Systems assesses ability to link Web applications to legacy
and e-mail systems using the Java Connector Architecture (JCA) and JavaMail in creating Java EE 7
Security in Enterprise Applications checks abilities to protect resources in Java, Web, and Web services
applications, including strategies and the underlying technologies for creating Java EE 7 applications.
Application Deployment measures fundamental concepts and techniques to be able to deploy a Java EE 7
application, including packaging, deployment descriptors, and annotations.
Java Architecture assesses understanding of the core Java EE 7 components and their purposes.
Design Patterns evaluates knowledge of the design patterns used in creating Java EE 7 application code.
JSF: Syntax, Standard Libraries, Page Lifecycle assesses understanding of Java EE 7 JSF (JavaServer
Faces) syntax and how the technology operates.
JSF: Custom Components, Customization, Globalization, Working with Table Data analyzes understanding
of how to use Java EE 7 JSF (JavaServer Faces) to develop Web applications for real-world business use.
Java Persistence: Managing Entities evaluates knowledge of the way JPA entities are managed in Java EE
7, including CRUD operations.
