Create bootable ISO image files of three OS X installers for use in Parallels Desktop 14
The aim of this project is to create three properly and bootable ISO image files for use in the installation of older OS X versions in Parallels Desktop. The benefit of this approach is to have permanent and clean virtual disks (to be kept as “templates”) and re-used as often as needed in the future, such as installing and running older applications, and to delete the disks when finished. In this way there is no need to find the hard to get OS X and macOS installer apps, DMGs or ISOs of selected old OS version, and to spend time waiting for them to be installed and ready.
Achieved so far
macOS Mojave, macOS High Sierra, macOS Sierra, OS X Mountain Lion have been converted into virtual disks (luckily the ISOs were available and working in Parallels Desktop).
However, the rest are as apps, and the method I use to create a workable ISO of Install OS X [El Capitan/Yosemite/Mavericks].app using the attached instructions (even though the Terminal commands do successfully create an ISO, and the apps themselves do install OS X on their own) is unsuccessful in Parallels Desktop. Parallels Desktop requires a properly-formatted ISO image file and hopefully the right installer for the app to accept the installer and perform the installation on the virtual disk.
Where you come in
As a confident Mac user/developer, we are looking for your help to achieve the following:
1. Find from your Mac archive, or download straight from Apple or a trustworthy third-party web site, the latest full OS X installer for El Capitan, Yosemite, and Mavericks.
2. If they are already as ISO image files, you may be in luck. Go to step 4.
3. If you don’t have the ISO image files ready, your expertise in converting to an ISO will be highly regarded. Use any method, e.g., Terminal commands, Disk Utility, Homebrew etc., to achieve this ISO aim.
4. To prove the ISOs do work, a copy of Parallels Desktop 14 can be supplied for your testing (if you don’t have the app). If the ISOs work and can install to the desktop, the project will be completed. Just upload to a high speed server the ISOs for us to download and confirm the work.
If this sounds like something you can whip up in a jiffy, feel free to apply.
