Imagine the business has just launched and you have an initial funding budget of $0.5 million.
Based on how the "cashback" business model works (and how Cashrewards has grown from its inception) develop a "startup" business plan that covers:
1. MARKETING - How will the business market itself to acquire merchants & get customers to transact? What will these costs be (be as detailed as possible)?
In your plan, describe various marketing/engagement/campaign channels that you will utilise and why they will work.
Assume all "copy writing," editorial, graphic design work, CRM management and IT/website costs is covered and whilst acknowledging this in the plan, you do not need to assign a cost for this.
2. MANPOWER - Apart from the CEO of the business, how many staff should there be at the start? What will their remuneration plans be? What will the expansion plan look like?
Be clear to outline the headcount - how many, what skills/experience and estimated costs
3. OPERATIONAL COSTS - The city is Sydney. Outline approx costs for rent
Suggestion is to use a shared working space for the 1st 6 to 12 months (such as 333 George Street, Sydney - [login to view URL]).
4. PROFIT & LOSS STATEMENT
Consider and list out all possible revenue opportunities & estimates of costs.
Provide a yearly & monthly breakdown and snapshot
Estimate:
(i) The runway (how long the budget of $0.5 million will last and
(ii) The total number of new customers that can be realistically captured (a new customer is defined as a new user who has made his first transaction on the Cashrewards platform).
Ensure in the plan you have an executive summary, a breakdown of the merchant/industry mix (pie chart), an "ideal customer" profile, graphs showing growth from month 0 to month 12 in terms of revenue and # of merchants on the platform & customers
Include as much other relevant info as possible.
You can research the Cashrewards business in detail to get an idea of how to construct this plan assuming that the business is starting from scratch today (but leveraging the learnings from publicly available info).
