Patent Agent - Need advice, drafting service etc

Hi,
We are a startup. We have designed a highly complex production machine for our own production with no intention to sell or display it for outsiders. As patent registers are open for competitors to research, the best advice is probably to keep the machine in a locked secret room with strict access rules for personell.... BUT financiers WANT to see a patent and wouldn't listen to anything else. So my dilemma is: should I patent the core of our process anyway, or could we just patent some general procedure around the core?
Do we still have to apply patent for each country, or are there any new larger regional patent rules nowadays? Can we apply in one country first to save money, and then later apply for the same patent in other countries?
The countries we are looking to apply patents in are:
Whole south Asia incl China
USA
North south America
North Africa
We are a poor startup company, so we cant afford any high hourly fees at the beginning.
