WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Are you entrepreneurial, creative, and intelligent? Do you thrive in a start-up environment? Are you committed to issues of social justice? And would you relish the chance to be part of something big from the very start? We're a new organization, developing a new (and cool!) web-based platform to improve corporate transparency and accountability in Latin America. We're looking for someone who can jump right in as a data architect, move quickly to lead engineer, and within 1-2 years gain experience as a project manager to build our prototype from the ground up. This person would design the technology architecture behind our platform, understand usability and use case requirements, and actually build the platform, dubbed the “Who's Who Wiki,” including back-end data manipulations and analytics, social network analysis, front-end wiki user interface, etc. Interested? Please keep reading for more detail.

ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

The Project on Organizing, Development, Education, and Research (PODER) is an award-winning, non-governmental, non-profit corporate accountability organization that leverages business intelligence, transparency technology, and community organizing to improve corporate accountability in Latin America and to strengthen civil society stakeholders of corporations as long-term accountability guarantors. The fulcrum of our work is proprietary business intelligence. PODER channels our information, know-how, and economic resources to local stakeholders at strategic nodes of the economy where our work has the greatest long-term multiplier effect. Together, PODER and our partners engage corporations and other stakeholders to ensure on-going corporate accountability.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

PODER is creating an innovative web-based platform to ensure access to symmetric information for all corporate stakeholders. Our “Who's Who Wiki” platform will consist of four components: a database containing information on corporate elites and their companies in Latin America, a network analysis and visualization tool illuminating the corporate social network, a wiki site to coalesce and empower diverse corporate stakeholders, including investors and civil society organizations, and a secure whistleblowing mechanism to inform on corporate malfeasance. Through this platform, we analyze the corporate social network, at both national and regional levels, to further a public understanding of its individual and corporate members. This understanding will be fundamental as investors, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders strive to democratize capitalism in Latin America.

PODER seeks a data architect / programmer with experience working with database-driven website programming, new social media technology, and social network analysis tools.
