Hi wordpress and php gurus.
I need the following custom wordpress plugin that I can use on a number of wordpress sites:
The plugin should dynamically convert between 2 currencies on a page/post in wordpress.
The code needs to scan the current page/post for any amounts and do an automatic currency conversion based on Google current exchange rates and a base rate set in the plugin config.
The plugin needs return the current Google currency conversion amount between 2 currencies. This amount then needs to be added to the current wordpress post/page.
eg: if you Google: "100 USD in GBP" - the GBP amount of 100 usd should be returned and inserted into the page/post.
I'd prefer to have this done without the need to reload the current page/post. However if this is not easily done then and a page/post reload is needed then that’s fine too.
The plugin logic shall be driven by simple config (Available through the wordpress admin menu) which will dictate the base currency and also what "text" to search for and replace.
Base Currency: "USD" <-- used by your plugin to convert FROM.
Search string prefix in page/post to indicate amount. "USD". <--- your program will then search the post/page to be loaded and take the amount after the string: "USD" to use in the conversion.
How the desired currency will be selected:
The target currency to convert TO will be a selectable drop down list box that can be added directly to any page/post using a wordpress "shortcode". - When a currency (eg: GBP) is selected from this listbox - the plugin will then search the current post for an amount to convert, writing the result back to the page/post afterwards.
i.e: if "USD 1300" is found in the post, it will then be overwritten to look something like this: "USD 1300 [GBP 879.09]"
Id like the converted amount to be rounded up to 2 decimal places.
If I enter “1300 USD in GBP” in Google, I get:
“1300 U.S. dollars = 879.091155 British pounds”
The selected currency choice from the list box should be cached (remembered) so that each subsequent page/post loaded will do this conversion as a default.
If no amount is found on the page to convert then do nothing except remember the chosen currency for the next page that does have something to convert.
I hope this makes sense and there is someone out there that will know how to do this effectively.
Hi found this usefull link that shows how this can be achieved with PHP and google.
