Running Huawei E160G USB Modem on Ubuntu for the Asus Eee PC(repost)

What I have:

- I have a Huawei E160G USB Modem for mobile broadband.

- I have an ASUS Eee PC 4G.

- I installed Easy Peasy, the Ubuntu optimized for the Asus Eee PC.

What I want:

- Have simple step on what packages / drivers / configuration I need to follow to have the Modem running on ASUS Eee PC 4G.

What I can do:

- Switch to a different version of Ubuntu, upgrade packages etc etc.

- Consider a different distribution (not the default Xandros Linux)

- Apply patches and try options according to detailed instructions

What I do not want:

- Switch to a different Huawei modem

- Switch to Windows XP. I got it working out of the box but I do not like XP on the Asus
