Question you want to ask your developer is , Is there a way to disable rand() function, This is the function that randomly displays the articles from reviewing the queries.

A large part of this issue due to the 'order by rand()' and subsequent 'limit' being applied to the results of a previous query. The 'limit' is not harmful, but has no benefit here, as most of the query's run time is spent performing a random re-ordering of 300+MB of data. Unfortunately, there are not many ways to resolve this properly, and we see that this may be a commercial script ('press release script').
